I was up early this morning and caught some of the Oscar-related shows on E!. What amazed me is how much class everyone seemed to have before the 1970's, the fashions in particular. Maybe the reason why so many are switching to "vintage" fashions is b/c so much of the new stuff is ugly. =)

I'm just tired of the so-called stars who act as though bathing and minimal grooming were some kind of sell-out.(Are you listening, Russell Crowe?)

Bizarre Oscar fashion news:

OSCAR host Whoopi Goldberg had a bit of trouble this week with her outfit for the awards ceremony. The comedienne was all set to wear the ornate, one-of-a-kind necklace Nicole Kidman wore in "Moulin Rouge" - an 18-carat white-gold confection studded with 1,308 diamonds. But there was one small problem. "Whoopi's neck is twice the size of Nicole's," said a necklace expert. The million-buck bauble - dubbed "Satine" after Kidman's character in the big-screen musical - was sent back to the maker for "surgery," and more diamonds had to be found to make it several sizes larger.source.

This little tidbit almost makes me want to "lock and load":

BEFORE Oscar-nominee Ian McKellen checks into his L.A. hotel this weekend, management would be well advised to remove the copy of the Gideon Bible from his suite. It turns out the British actor is a gay rights guerrilla who gleefully defaces the good book. He tells Webster Hall art curator Baird Jones that when he checks into a hotel, he looks for the Gideon, turns to Leviticus 18.22 and rips out that page. "I don't know if anyone's even noticed [his action], but that section railing against homosexuality offends me," he says. "I must have censored hundreds of Gideons by now." NY Post.

What a coincidence, perverts offend me. Censorship is okay when it's done by the left, you know.

I think he keeps that look since he's also in a rock band and doesn't want to look too clean cut. Whatever!

When I saw those huge 'Oscar' statues my first thought was of the robot in "The Day the Earth Stood Still"! My daughter and I will be watching tomorrow and rooting for "Fellowship of the Ring"!

More NY Post scoop.

SIGHTINGS ... DENISE Rich and Sale Johnson, two delightfully well-taken-care-of divorcées [and alleged Clinton girlfriends], courtside at the Garden as the Knicks lost another.

Looks like the 'View' Oscar special is off now after the Academy awards...

Lisa Ling was going to have a live feed inside the Vanity Fair party at Morton's and at Moomba but everyone is icing her out.

arggh, the first frustration of the day: I'm trying to print my f-i-l's tax return and my printer picked this occasion to run out of ink, so now all the forms are coming out red. Do you think the IRS will mind? At least I'm not doing them in multi-hued pastels.

What kind of gun are you considering? I have these friends in Arizona that take me shooting when I come to visit - we go out into the desert and target shoot - too fun. He has a number of hand guns so I get to fire lots of stuff. I don't know much about the plusses and minuses of the various ones, but it is fun to shoot them with people that know what they are doing. I've shot a 45, a 9mm (my personal favorite), a 22 pistol, and rifles with them.

It's funny you should mention owning a gun, Mountaineer because I'm buying a house and while laying in bed last night I decided I needed a hand gun to go with the house. I can't depend on the two cats to protect me should bad guys come calling. And of course I'd take lessons from the local NRA people. So, what are you going to get?

I already have a .380 semi-auto pistol, which I carry for protection, and would like to get a .357 revolver for more firepower. If we move out into the country someday (please, oh please, oh please), I'd also want a shotgun and/or a .22 cal. rifle for critters.

Did you miss this? Great article, funny comments and some very "interesting" pics from the nuptials that Miss Marple found:

Mark Steyn: 'I'll do anything - but not the Liza wedding'

My favorite:

ROFL! I won't be watching - I can't bear the pain. What I will do is read the People magazine coverage when I got to my hairdresser! We laugh over the photos of the fashion horrors. I think many of these people have more money than taste.

And it also appears that Jenna Bush flashed her new tatoo (below the waist-gotten over her Mom's wishes) at a potential suitor in a party in Los Angeles, according to a reference on the front of Page Six.com in the Hunter S. Thompson article.

pardon my ignorance.... is this a real picture of Liza (& some fella), Michael and Liz? or is it some kinda of computer/wax museum thingy?

no offense to the folks pictured... my monitor isn't the best.

Does anyone know if Liza and Liz are still sober? While Liza's form of entertaining was never really my 'speed', she certainly inherited her mother's enthusiasm in performing. And Liz is, well... Liz Taylor! A remarkable beauty with remarkable talent and a remarkable personality to boot! lol Michael is well.. Jacko. You basically get what you see with him.

When you get down to it, all the folks in Hollyweird that make you say to yourself.. "exactly what is up with all those child actors!???"
