Well I can't say it was of great importance, but I and a trio of other GRITS (Girls Raised in the South) here in MA got together for a 'Welcome Spring' party yesterday morning. We gathered at a friend's home wearing sun hats and sunglasses, ate a bowl of warm cheese grits, then proceeded outside to sit in our lawn chairs in 3" OF SNOW!! My friend's Yankee friends got a huge kick out of it; one had even called the local paper and the guy came out and took pictures of us! We stayed out there in 32 degree, overcast weather for a half-hour, drinking our Magnolias (a Mimosa with a splash of Gran Marnier). My friend and I were in shorts, sweaters and sneakers, while the two other girls were in flowered long pants and SANDALS! Their toes were numb when we got back inside (as were ALL our fingers), and we had a lovely brunch with the Yankee girls. Just after we went back inside it started snowing AGAIN and we had 5 more inches by the end of the day. It was a GREAT time, and we've already made plans for the 2nd annual 'Grits and Magnolias" gathering on the first day of Spring 2003!
Happy Spring everyone, even if it doesn't look like it where YOU are!
