If I ever went south to avoid bad weather, it wouldn't be in winter. It would be in November and March. I hate cold rain. Give me snow any day!
I have an ideal plan for the temperate zone. December through February should be in the twenties and sunny, with occasional snow to make things white and beautiful. March through May should be 60, breezy, with rain only during weekdays. June through August should be hot enough to swim, but never above 85, and September through November should be back down to the 60's until winter arrives in December in time for a white Christmas.
Think that'll ever happen?! LOL!
Hello from Milan.
I don't have time to go on FR but I wanted to drop a note to say that I am fine. The weather is in the 60s and it's been overcast but so far it's been a great trip.
Did you know that Chelsea was in Venice this weekend!!! I can't believe I missed her. So many people told me about it. She still has security and she tied up the canals. I wish I could have gotten pictures.
I will be on my way to Florence tomorrow to go to a spa and visit the museums. My jet lag is killing me.
I will catch you when I can,
HLL
Curiously, that little tidbit wasn't reported anywhere. Hmmm, I can't imagine why.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sure knows how to ladle it on. During yesterday's Senate Budget Committee markup, she gave a world-class demonstration in the art of flattery, finding an easy mark in her senior colleague Robert Byrd:
"I just have to say that my mother, who is about the same age as Senator Byrd, had never watched C-SPAN until I was elected," the New York Democrat announced. "And then she started watching C-SPAN to get a glimpse of me, and she's just fallen in love with Senator Byrd. And she loves his speeches -- his spring speech, his fall speeches, his commemorative speeches."
Clinton wasn't finished. "You have a lot of fans out there and I thank you for giving my mother a lot of joy, day in and day out," she actually told the West Virginia Democrat. Byrd meltingly replied: "Please give her my sweetest notes of appreciation and fondness."
DS - thanks for the HLL update. I know she's having a ball - you can't help having a super time in Venice and Florence.
Well I can't say it was of great importance, but I and a trio of other GRITS (Girls Raised in the South) here in MA got together for a 'Welcome Spring' party yesterday morning. We gathered at a friend's home wearing sun hats and sunglasses, ate a bowl of warm cheese grits, then proceeded outside to sit in our lawn chairs in 3" OF SNOW!! My friend's Yankee friends got a huge kick out of it; one had even called the local paper and the guy came out and took pictures of us! We stayed out there in 32 degree, overcast weather for a half-hour, drinking our Magnolias (a Mimosa with a splash of Gran Marnier). My friend and I were in shorts, sweaters and sneakers, while the two other girls were in flowered long pants and SANDALS! Their toes were numb when we got back inside (as were ALL our fingers), and we had a lovely brunch with the Yankee girls. Just after we went back inside it started snowing AGAIN and we had 5 more inches by the end of the day. It was a GREAT time, and we've already made plans for the 2nd annual 'Grits and Magnolias" gathering on the first day of Spring 2003!
Happy Spring everyone, even if it doesn't look like it where YOU are!
