"There is good new stuff, really. It depends what you want"
I still like sci fi and fantasy, but look for good writing, mainly. It can be hard to find.
One that made an impression on me was (JenB's) Doomsday Book. I discovered it because it was mentioned on an FR thread, but no longer remember who made the recommendation.
I've worked in politics far too long for that to bother me. But, like I said, the book I picked up had the girlfriend using the f-word on page four, just because her boyfriend was late for dinner. Using it when the scene calls for it is one thing. That was just unnecessary.
I just finished re-reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe last night, and am about a third of the way into Prince Caspian. I'm also about a quarter of the way through The Mark (Book 8 in The Left Behind series). I plan to finish the Chronicles, read books 8&9 (I know they're you're favorites), re-read The Two Towers, and then move on to your other suggestions.
I've caught your opinions before and believe that you aren't too fond of Stephen Donaldson and Terry Brooks (correct?). There are a couple of Shanara (sp?) books out I haven't read yet, and probably will.
