SPOILER -- IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE AND YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS -- DON'T READ ANY FURTHER.
When Yoda went to fight Dooku - there was laughter (I think Corin mentioned it before) but it wasn't satrical or disbelief... it was more like... this is going to be good. I watched for it since that was mentioned. There was no disrespect implied by the laughter. I thought it was great myself.
The best part of the movie happened on Tatooine. After Anakin kills the raiders, he tells Padame that "he hates them all..." Then... Darth Vader's theme is heard. The whole audience reacted at that.
But that is also the greatest flaw of the movie. The best moment was done by the orchestrator. The movie lacks Hans Solo or someone like him. An exciting character... a character that demands you look at him. Hans was funny... but, he commanded your attention. He brought a certain tension to the scenes. When he wasn't on screen, you couldn't wait for him to return. Sorta like Aragorn.
The movie is too serious... I know it's about serious issues, but the humor is forced as some of the situations. There were inherent and organic comedy in the A New Hope and Empire that is not in this one. Funny asides to the camera are desperate. The story telling is heavy handed. I like the characters and the story...
Also, since I know the outcome... there is no suspense. So when you put characters I know live in peril... who cares. That hurts the story too.
I saw it once... I have no desire to see it again. I think I saw the original Star Wars 4 times in the theater and the Empire Strikes Back a boatload. After Empire the series has gone downhill.
