I'm pretty fortunate because my mom insists on being the bird-cooker every single year. I have yet to be saddled with that task.

My mother in law is preparing a bird as well. *shudder* I hope its edible this time.

Yes, we've got a 19lb turkey. I use those cooking bags - not so much mess to clean up and the bird doesn't dry out.
