Hey Corin, for your backyard look into sowing it with Sheep Fescue. It is supposed to tolerate drought, be slower growing and very hardy. We just sowed some seed into our yard in some of the bare spots to see how it holds up compared the the fine fescue/Kentucky bluegrass that is there now. During the summer our yard was like potato chips; it was a lovely golden brown and crunched when you walked on it. We want to see if the new stuff can withstand the harsh dry conditions of my front yard which faces due west and COOKS all summer.

I'll check it out. Thanks. We were also considering Dwarf Mondo Grass. It only grows about 4 inches tall and you don't have to mow it. But it's very expensive (like $5.00 per plug...)
