You could get a gray material for the cloak and say it's the "book version"...

We may be going with gray anyway. But if it's not something pre-made, it ain't happening...

Well, try a fabric store. If you get a fabric that doesn't fray readily, you could cut out a basic cloak from the pattern and get away with not hemming or sewing on it. (Half-circle with the neck hole cut out) it just wouldn't have a hood. It would be like the pre-lothlorien cloaks, and they could be green gray or brown.
