That was how I first imagined it when I read the books for the first time, partly because we ate shortbread so often - it was about the quickest "cooky" Mom could make, especially as she did it in one big cast iron pan instead of cutting them out.

However, I think it's a)too sweet and b)too crumbly. So probably not quite it...
