Nope! Some parts of the south are OK to visit, but I'll stay here, thanks!
My Mom's family is from Indiana and my grandmother does a lot of cooking that I guess almost qualifies as southern - i.e. biscuits and gravy go with any meal including breakfast, lots o' fried stuff (chicken, okra, etc.), grits, all that stuff.
And then some of my best friends when I was in the military were southern. There was one guy from MS (which isn't LA, but...) who made WONDERFUL gumbo, though he had to tone down the heat a bit for some of us Northerners...he'd make one pot of reallly hot stuff and one mild pot, and I'd usually mix some of each...guess I'm somewhere between tough and sissy when it comes to hot food!
Hey, folks from MS know how to make gumbo (I'm one of them)! Sir SuziQ likes it hot enough to make his nose run. I just make it spicy enough for me, then give him the cayenne pepper and let him go to it! Where in MS did this guy live?
We love it when we can bring home that good Gulf (of Mexico) Shrimp. It just has a wonderful flavor. I didn't realize our oldest even noticed it, but he was telling us about talking to some folks at his college and they said they didn't like shrimp. He told them they needed to try the Gulf Shrimp and they'd change their minds. I'm so glad we've given that boy some CULTURE!
Like a hobbit hole?
