Oh, sure, even the title of the book indicates the use of point and countpoint to make a, uhm, point... about good and evil, and, and, the duality of man, and, uh, falling from grace to a state of, uhm, wretchedness......
Uhm...

Right, and then the theme of redemption, and the salvation which, while coming as a surprise, is inherent in the plot and foreshadowed long before.
Or perhaps we should go on to discuss how LotR related to Scandinavian and Finnish folklore. Actually the Finnish stuff is more related to the Silmarillion, but the Rohirrim seem like they stepped out of Beowulf and the Gondorians are a sort of Roman/Atlantean hybrid of - er - and the Ents are representative of Native Americans. Or maybe oppressed Eskimos or something...

I went upthread to early June, with the discussion about maximum thread length. Here is JohnRobinson's reply to ksen's inquiry about maximum thread length: '65,535. The largest value possible for a 2-byte integer field.'
So we have made 11,000 posts in the just under 2 1/2 months since early June. At that rate we would go over the top just at the beginning of next summer. I guess that there will be some acceleration in posting, so if we want, we could go on until the DVD for TTT is released, if we want to wait that long. I was wrong with the numbers last week. Sorry!
