After browsing through most of this thread since its inception and throwing a bone or two out every now and then, and seeing the latest discussion of Aragon; I just have to ask who if not Viggo should be Aragon? I don't remember this coming up before so sorry if I missed it. So let us discus it past actors or present.

I would like to go back a few years and say that when I read the story I always envisioned a Randolf Scott sort as Aragon, tall, quiet, but a strength underneath, not particularly muscular looking, but not one to mess with. Another that comes to mind is Buster Crabbe (the old Flash Gordon serials). I can't think of any recent actors that I can nominate, but I don't see that many movies to draw from these days.

Note I am just thinking looks in these two suggestions. I don't know if the voices would work or not.

Well, in an indirect way I agreed with WTRF about using a James Bond actor...only he suggested Timothy Dalton...and the best image that has always come up in MY mind was either Sean Connery as he looked when he played Agamemnon in "Time Bandits" (he looked VERY kingly then!) or at least someone who didn't have a broken nose and look like a refugee from a Native American casting list. Regardless of features, I had always imagined a rugged type face, to the point of severe scruffiness, with dark hair and dark eyes...and MAYBE a mustache....but I've never been fond of mustaches.

Elijah Wood was SPOT ON for Frodo. I am SO glad that role didnt go to Stuart Townsend...I heard he left the production as Aragorn all in a snit because he wanted to be Frodo.

Bet he's kicking himself now. Doesn't matter. I couldn't have even envisioned him as Aragorn. Too pretty.

Well, Viggo is perfect, but if not Viggo, then...

Hm. Tough question. To be honest I can't bring anyone to mind, partly because I had such a strong image of him from the books that it's hard to just pick a real person to match up. Not to mention you have to have the voice, too. I like this guy:

(Colin Firth), but I'm not sure he could have played a tough guy like Aragorn. (He was a WONDERFUL Mr. Darcy, though, for fans of Pride and Prejudice).

Honestly, I don't really keep track of actors, so I'm not good at picking 'em.

Trouble is, it requires dignity, ferocity, and intelligence wrapped up together.

Clint Eastwood might have pulled it off a few years ago.
