our garden...it's done in the square foot method I love square foot gardening! We haven't bothered with a garden here in MA, all we'd harvest is rocks anyway, and the growing season is so short! When we were living in NJ, we had a great garden in the back. I grew tomatoes, beans, pumpkins, and various herbs.
We'd eventually like to create a raised square foot garden about 3 feet off the ground so you don't even have to get down on your hands and knees to weed etc. That will have to wait until we move to a more temperate climate!
You should consider container gardening! You have to look for certain types of plants, like bush type tomatoes as apposed to vining and stumpy danvers carrots instead of the long imperator type. But you can grow beans if you tie up some twine for them to grow up.
I have some great pictures of Matthew when he was a baby, picking the first tomatoe of the season from our container garden. That's all we had because most landlords wouldn't let us tear up the lawn. Our first landlord had a spare lot and that's where we had a huge garden...the one the Wiccans next door meditated in!
The first thing we did when we moved into our house was dig up a garden. Our first garden was a fall garden, consisting of radishes. That's it. Radishes. The bed was 4x4".
