How do you actually like the book? My impression is that Card takes morality seriously, though I don't remember whether or not he's religious.

I liked the first and last of the Ender's Game series quite a bit, though I wasn't too sure about the middle two. Ender's Shadow was the best of those, I think.

Have started, at JenB's recommendation, Otherland and am liking it so far. An improvement on William's last series, IMHO, the one with Green Angel Tower, etc.

I liked the book. It eventually got to where I really didn't want to put it down. I looked for the Ender series because I remembered it being talked about here, but my library only had a couple of the books. They had all of the Homecoming series though, so I decided to read those instead.

I am not sure how Card views morality. His views on sexuality, as reflected in this book, left something to be desired, in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't give it to my 11 year old daughter to read.

This series defintitely has strong Biblical overtones. Card has taken elements from the lives of Abraham and Joseph, so far, and used them in his storyline.

I've started the second book and the story is still holding my interest. There are five books in all. I would recommend you pick up Memory of Earth and give it a try.

Whoo! Let me know what you think of Otherland, especially when you're finished. You have favorite characters yet?

As for Orson Scott Card, yeah, he's LDS. IIRC, the Homecoming series is based on a story from the book of Mormom. I'm not sure because I haven't read that book. It's a pretty good story, but not for young kids... the morality aspect bugged me until I realized he was using it to make a distinction between the "good guys" and the "bad guys". Ender's Game is a little more clear cut, though it's still got a lot of interesting questions.

Anyway, I'm in for the night. Tomorrow I only work one job! So maybe I'll be around tomorrow night, though I'm planning to call a friend and talk. Nice, conservative, reading-Tolkien-for-the-first-time friend from school... so I might not be on after all.
