Could the other battle be when Merry and Pippin escape the clutches of the Urak Hai when the men of Rowan attack? That was more of a big skirmish. In any case, up above, the suggestion was made that the battle was the taking of Orthanc by the Ents, which is only described, not shown, in the book.

In any case, up above, the suggestion was made that the battle was the taking of Orthanc by the Ents, which is only described, not shown, in the book. And, I must say, I think if it was not shown in the movie, I would be disappointed. I want to see Treebeard and company tearing that place apart!

TreeBeard is a huge robotic puppet... and Merry and Pippin ride on his shoulders. TreeBeard's voice is by the same actor who plays Gimli...
We will see the results of the Entdraughts on Merry and Pippin.
The only thing I see is that Arwen and her brothers join in the battle of Helm's Deep, bring Aragorn the sword of Narsil. When asked why Aragorn does not carry the sword as he did in the books, Jackson replied that he thought when the hobbits charged through his door at Bree, it would have garnered too big a laugh if Aragorn whipped out a broken sword. Those who were familiar with the books would understand why the sword was broken... those who only had seen the movie would not.
I do not envy Jackson's task. But, he has done a marvelous job. I especially like him because he is very fond of Gollum.

Bumping for stumbling across the new hole. Family evening reading now has Gollum leading Frodo and Sam away from the Morannon and in to Ithilien. Gollum's voice has proved to be a challenge. More than anything, the voice that's coming out of me in reading it reminds me of a demented Yoda. See you all later!

For some reason, that is sticking in my mind--I would place my bet that the battle PJ is talking about is the Rohirrim attacking the orcs that had carried Merry and Pippin off. I seem to remember reading a spoiler that sounded like it would be that scene.

I read that Narsil will not be shown until RotK, which will open with the reforging of it in Rivendell...
However, Helm's deep is described as including elves in the battle, so I'm sure you're right about Arwen showing up. Certainly we can't have the requisite "hollywood romantic scene" be missing from Part 2 of the trilogy. (I'm rolling my eyes here, lol)

I meant, Helm's Deep including the elves in the battle as part of the description of the scene from the movie (not the book).

I've seen pictures of Arwen at Helm's Deep. All the pictures of Aragorn at Helm's Deep shows him with the sword. So... who knows.
And you are right. Have to have the romance. (I'm rolling my eyes too)
Where have you been, I've missed you!

I really think it is the Ent attack on Isengard. I've seen some "footage" of this.
But, you can't go wrong with battles. I kind of like them.
To: carton253
I kind of like them.Me too, I'm looking forward to the battle with the Corsairs, let by Aragorn and the marching undead, that will creep out the high school twerps!

In my personal reading, Frodo and Sam have just left Henneth Annun with Gollum and are making the Journey to the Cross-roads.
In my reading to the boys, Smaug has just scorched Bilbo good, after he gave him the little burgler tweek! "Never laugh at live dragons!"

I'm looking forward to the battle with the Corsairs, let by Aragorn and the marching undead, that will creep out the high school twerps! I am fully expecting that whole sequence to be cut from the movies. Like the Old Forest, that can't put in everything, and that part would lift out pretty easily :(

I've seen pictures of Arwen at Helm's Deep. Chances are good then that Eowyn and Arwen will meet in TT. Catfight! Catfight!
To: carton253
All the pictures of Aragorn at Helm's Deep shows him with the sword. Really? Okay, where do I find them? That is good news, because I was really annoyed to hear that they were waiting till RotK to give the guy his sword. Maybe if the report on the forging being in RotK is true, they are doing it as a flashback. I don't think I've seen any pics yet of Aragorn with Anduril, so I really want to see those!
As for where I've been--snowed under at work and sick as a dog to boot...
But I'm happy to have a chance to poke my head in today. I kept missing so much great discussion this week, it was driving me crazy!
