The pickings for this year seem rather dismal (Eminem?), LOL! Last Sunday, during the Confirmation Class, each small group was discussing temptation and how to avoid doing things which the kids knew to be sinful. Someone mentioned movies, and "8 Mile" came up. I asked if that was the Eminem movie, then made the gagging face and said I couln't STAND Eminem. Talk about a discussion starter!! It was great though, because I mentioned I didn't like gangsta rap for the same reason I didn't like Eminem; I thought their attitudes toward women were disgusting, and why would ANY woman allow someone to treat them that way, or even DISCUSS them that way. Some of the kids agreed with that, but they still defended Eminem as an artist. I guess it was like their Mama dissing their favorite singers. I'm probably older than most of their Mamas!

Hey Corin, for your backyard look into sowing it with Sheep Fescue. It is supposed to tolerate drought, be slower growing and very hardy. We just sowed some seed into our yard in some of the bare spots to see how it holds up compared the the fine fescue/Kentucky bluegrass that is there now. During the summer our yard was like potato chips; it was a lovely golden brown and crunched when you walked on it. We want to see if the new stuff can withstand the harsh dry conditions of my front yard which faces due west and COOKS all summer.

I'm probably older than most of their Mamas!Which might mean they like it precisely because you don't! My music is pretty hip... My parents hated it. How is a kid nowadays supposed to rebel against their parents' conventions if their parents listen to Led Zeppelin? It is a vicious cycle! I hate to think where it will end up! Really I do.

How is a kid nowadays supposed to rebel against their parents' conventions if their parents listen to Led Zeppelin? Listen to Kodaly, Wagner, and Brahms. However, post-Civil War folk music really drove them up the walls.
I didn't start listening to popular music until a few years ago.

In my teenage years I listened to Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne. Boy, am I in trouble or what?
To: RMDupree; John Farson
Heh... Yeah Ruthie.... You are in big trouble!
To: John Farson
I would like to see the pendulum swing back... It would be a riot to see a generation with more wholesome music than their parents!
And I am not among the 30-somethings who think there is nothing good being recorded. I think there is lots of good stuff still being done. I particularly like Matchbox 20. I look for singer-songwriters, as opposed to bands playing songs provided to them by studio writers, and there still are some!
I also have a lot of hope for Vanessa Carlton. Her lyrics are a little lame, but her "A Thousand Miles" is an excellent music piece. The piano and orchestra music is beautifully written. I crank it.

for your backyard look into sowing it with Sheep Fescue... I'll check it out. Thanks. We were also considering Dwarf Mondo Grass. It only grows about 4 inches tall and you don't have to mow it. But it's very expensive (like $5.00 per plug...)

You think there's any hope that in 10 years the coolest music will be Big Band? *fingers crossed*
