That's what friends are for, Rosie, to halve the burdens and double the joys!
To: RosieCotton
Hey Rosie! Talking to you last night gave me an inspiration for something I knew was missing from my story. Now it'll all work together much better, thank you.
I'm still overjoyed from the elections - or silly from staying up til nearly 1 in the morning. And then I was up at 7 to see FoxNews before work!
Oh well. All is right with the world. IwillnotgloatIwillnotgloat.

I plan to gloat for at least another week or so. In fact, I'm kind of glowing inside as I gloat. So does that mean I'm glowting?
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
Just a week? C'mon....you can make it longer than that! I plan to gloat every time a hear/read liberals whine.
To: Overtaxed; All
I think I pissed FR off... nobody has answered a single one of my posts since yesterday...
hello... test 1, 2, 3.... is this thing on?...
To: Overtaxed
LOL! So you plan to gloat for life! Not a bad idea....
To: g'nad
Hi g'nad. Sorry, but I haven't seen any of your other posts since yesterday. I've been too busy gloating....;^)
To: g'nad
Good evening! Were any of them addressed to me? Have I been a nassty, cruel, rude hobbit?
To: JenB
Jen, Glad I could help! I had a decent story day myself, I think, though I'm still 1300 words behind! I like Drew a lot better now.
Still haven't started on my fourth character, though. I spent too much time with the band guys and then skipped back to Drew instead of moving on. Ah well. I'll catch up tomorrow, hopefully!

I did see your post pointing to the Vermont results. I just didn't feel like posting because Racine was being a typical Dem and refusing to concede. Now he has, though! Hooray! Even if he's a RINO, he's GOTTA be better than Dean. Yuck.

Haven't posted that many since yesterday, (network in the toilet) but as you're probably well aware, my posts usually elicit some kinds response... thanks for lettin' me know I ain't been shunned...
To: RosieCotton

The original version of "The Long Black Veil" was recorded by country artist Lefty Frizzell in 1959; it was a big hit for him. That's the only version I'm familiar with... I've seen it on a "Best of" collection of Lefty Frizzell's hits.
Original lyrics...
Ten years ago, on a cold dark night,
Someone was killed 'neath the town hall light.
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the slayer who ran looked a lot like me.
She walks these hills in a long, black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, nobody sees, nobody knows but me.
The judge said, "Son, what is your alibi?
If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die."
I spoke not a word, although it meant my life,
For I had been in the arms of my best friend's wife.
She walks these hills in a long, black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, nobody sees, nobody knows but me.
The scaffold was high and eternity near,
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear.
But sometimes at night when the cold wind moans,
In a long black veil, she cries o'er my bones.
She walks these hills in a long, black veil.
She visits my grave when the night winds wail.
Nobody knows, nobody sees, nobody knows but me.

I like Lefty. Wish I had more of his stuff.
Johnny Cash's version is good, though. It's the same lyrics.

Johnny Cash's version is good, though. With his voice, I imagine it would be! :) Lefty's version is hard for me to describe... very, uhm, simple; most of the lyrics are more spoken than sung, and the music is very sparse. But, given the subject matter, that adds to the song as far as I'm concerned!

But, given the subject matter, that adds to the song as far as I'm concerned! I'll have to check it out one of these days. I keep meaning to add more Lefty to my collection, though it seems like oftentimes it's hard to find his albums. Everyone else has done his songs, so you'd think the record stores would have more respect!
I do have enough to know that his arrangements do tend to be pretty simple, especially rhythmically. Not much swing or any o' that sort of thing. ;-)

Woo-hoo! Less than 600 words behind, now! (My own quota - not your count!) I may even catch up tonight. Hooray!
To: RosieCotton
[Looks around] Where is everyone? Is everybody worn out from last night or are they out somewhere gloating (glowting)?
To: Overtaxed
Been awfully quiet, hasn't it? Must have gone to bed early after staying up half the night...
93 words to go!
