It will be more brown on the bottom than the top, especially if baked in a cast iron skillet. The top will get a golden brown, and if you used white cornmeal, it will be creamy colored on the inside.Yeah, but I don't like it with white cornmeal! *stomps foot*
And it would still be too crumbly for lembas. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

How went the plotting, Rosie? Was it better than the meeting?Well...I think I accomplished more than we did in the meeting! I hate meetings...doesn't seem like anything ever gets done through them. And this particular one is even more pointless than most since we're supposed to be a team that figures out ways to save costs within the company, but none of us are at a high enough level to actually DO anything, so we just sit and complain about how managment has changed in the last year (which it has, but...)
I still have major holes in my plot, but at least now there are a few islands of story between the holes! ;-)

Good Morning, Rosie!
In Tolkien's letters, he says that lembas is no different chemically from "any other cake made from wheat-flour". So there! Cornmeal is out.

Good morning! And good luck on your trip - stay safe!

So there! Cornmeal is out. Ha! Thanks for helping me out here, OT!

So I'm still stuck with the crispy cake dilemma. Or should I try for just crispy on the corners? I could bake them in these tart pans I have with sloping sides. That would make the edges crispy.
To: Overtaxed
This is starting to sound like the tropical coconut debate. I can hear Tolkien saying "Look, it doesn't matter!
To: Overtaxed
I don't know how literally we should take the "cake" wording...especially since they also call 'em wafers, and they were enough like cram (which I imagine to be like hardtack) for Gimli to mistake them for it..
To: Overtaxed
LOL...I think Hair tried to tell us that yesterday, but we kept right on going. And it's not even the first time we've discussed lembas for long periods, either!
To: RosieCotton
Let's see....Tolkien and the elves call it "cake", Gimli thought it was "cram", and Sam (or was it Frodo) called them "wafers". I suppose Tolkien never actually got in the kitchen and tried to make some.

I suppose Tolkien never actually got in the kitchen and tried to make some.I think that may be the only think we've established about lembas at this point!

thing, not think...more coffee please!
To: RosieCotton
...more coffee please! ....and where are those biscuits?
To: Overtaxed
....and where are those biscuits?Now...what is your definition of "biscuit" at this time? Do you mean biscuit in the British sense, a cracker or cookie? (And of course, there are many types of cookies!) Or biscuit in the American sense, a small quick bread made from dough that has been rolled out and cut or dropped from a spoon?
Ain't semantics fun?
To: SuziQ; HairOfTheDog
Wha'd I do now?
To: RosieCotton
Right now I'm talking Southern biscuits. Preferably with bacon, sausage, or country ham inside. :)
To: g'nad
Be safe friend. If you happen to bag the s.o.b. I want pictures...
To: Overtaxed
So I'm still stuck with the crispy cake dilemma. Maybe they're deep fried? The southern elves would do it that way...
To: Overtaxed
Sounds good to me! Now where'd that Ruthy run off to?
To: Overtaxed
mmmmmm....biscuits....
