So I'm still stuck with the crispy cake dilemma. Or should I try for just crispy on the corners? I could bake them in these tart pans I have with sloping sides. That would make the edges crispy.

I don't know how literally we should take the "cake" wording...especially since they also call 'em wafers, and they were enough like cram (which I imagine to be like hardtack) for Gimli to mistake them for it..
