Ask us about easy fish when the time comes to set up a tank... maybe start out with fish like a Beta or neons or Mollies that are pretty hardy. Mollies will breed too, if you have one male and several females (get more than a pair... one female cannot bear all the attention the males want to give... he'll exhaust her). That is kinda fun because they have live births, not eggs. and most of them survive if you have hidey places. The parents eat some of them.

Perhaps I am just a spoiled American, but I never considered wishing I could eat the snails!

Guess you would not have done your patriotic duty back around 1960 in Fort Lauderdale. As often happens in south Florida, an exotic animal with no natural enemies in the US started to get established there, after somebody let some loose. These were giant African Land Snails whose shells were more than 6 inches across. They were slithering all over, leaving slimy paths several inches across. For a while it was thought that they couldn't be stopped from taking over southern Florida. Then somebody discovered that they tasted just like giant escargot!

YUM YUM!!

Eating enormous snails sounds yuckier than the idea of eating these little guys. At least these little guys could be hidden in some soup. No need to field-dress them and filet them!

I had Mollies when I was a kid. They bred a couple of times. My mom did all the caring for them though, but they eventually passed on as well.

Maybe I'm just not meant to have fish.

Maybe, but eventually everything dies, Corin.... Fish are not long-lived creatures... a few years and a couple batches of babies, and they call it a life and fade away...

Those snails sound big enough to shoot, say with a .223. OTOH, maybe they'd make good ammo for a potato gun.

Somehow, I don't remember having seen one. I bet they'd be noticable if you ran over one with a car, though.

Sounds like they'd take a lot of salt!

When we were in FL this August, the Gulf was churned up by Trop. Storm Bertha and we had one morning when tons of sea slugs were washed up on the beach. It was GROSS! One little girl had one in a bucket of water and the darn thing looked like a baby manta ray with wings and everything. Actually my sister in law said it looked like a sea Cucumber. Whatever, it took two days for them to dry out and get washed away!

"Sounds like they'd take a lot of salt!"

You mean if you loaded up your shotgun with rock salt and nails?

We have common garden snails in our yard. Rose hates snails... but she likes pouring table salt on them. It makes them dissolve. (ick!)

Oh well, good time to go to bed. Good night all!
