No! In 10 minutes! The boys are with my folks (a rare thing!) and Steve is taking me!
I can't believe it!
To: Overtaxed
I would have taken the boys, but it's a pub, you know.

Cool! I left my whistles at home today. :( Now I'm getting this urge to try to put Grampa's clarinet together....
To: Overtaxed
LOL! See you all later!
To: 2Jedismom
Have fun!
To: Overtaxed
Hehe - did you see the "LotR leaked on internet" thread? I'm gonna try to have some funny with Mr. Aggie...

Oh, the Hugos! I completely forgot!

Connie Willis is up for best novel, as usual when she has a new book out... I think she's won about 7 but she deserves them all, and her latest, "Passage" was incredibly good. Near Death Experiences, the Titanic, literature, love, death, poetry - it was one of my favorite books this year.

Have a good time! - And no - you don't have to have real irish in your coffee! (you know that!)

I am without sound on my TV still... didn't get out to the TV store yet. Tomorrow perhaps.
What channel is it on? - Perhaps I can read lips.

Hey, everyone...
As Jen has reminded me, the 60th Annual World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon) is being held this weekend in San Jose, CA. The Hugo Awards are presented each year at the WorldCon, for achievement in the realm of Science Fiction. Our Favorite Movie has been nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation. Here's list of all of this year's nominees.

I don't think it's on tv.

Well, it's obvious that our movie will win... the other awards are trickier. Willis should win for best novel, but she's won so often that may count against her. Gaiman is very popular, as is Bujold; either of them has a good chance of taking the prize. I haven't read most of the things nominated in the other categories, so I shan't wager on them.

I haven't read any of the story nominees. And I've only seen two of the Dramatic Presentation nominees (FOTR and Shrek). (sigh) I'm just haven't been into fandom as much since Babylon 5 finished it's first run.
To: HairOfTheDog
I looked for a webcast, but I couldn't find one. They've done webcasts of the awards presentation in the past... but no one seems to do webcasts much any more....
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Well, I've found some good new stuff lately, so I'm hopeful. Of course, 95% of anything is dreck, but that 5% is worth it all.

Well, it's obvious that our movie will win...I would hope so, everything else is kid stuff. Boy, I am out of touch, I only recognizec the names of 9 fiction authors, 2 editors, and 1 artist. According to the site, the awards will be made at 8 PM PDT.
To: Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Yeah, and the ones I care about will no doubt be the last ones given. I'll check tomorrow, I think. I don't recognize many of the names, either; most of the Novel candidates and a few of the short story writers, that's about it. Oh, and Gardner Dozier, who edits Analog - or Asimov's, I forget which...
