hehehehe - htur, You are quite safe within the Hobbit threads, except perhaps from Overtaxed, who likes to bash the elves ;~D
I would not recommend venturing very deep into Free Republic if you want to avoid attacks! It is dangerous out there!... unless of course you bring a good archer with you when you go! ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog
Legolas is a very excelent archer. he he. I don't mind being atacked once in a while. It keeps the senses alert. I won't take things personal. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Even if it is the wrong one. Just kidding. :)

Why should I believe that the elves can do no wrong?

Nobody says Elves do no wrong. We just say they're a lot smarter and nobler, in general, than humans. And they're utterly cool. Sometimes they make real big mistakes, or are nasty individuals, but they have a pretty good track record, in general.

Yeah...tell me about those gremlins.
Yeah...tell me about those gremlins. :) Two posts/click!
To: JenB
If they're so noble, how come they're ditching Middle Earth and sticking mortals with their ring problem? I know, I fell off the wagon. That's what happens when you go out for pints with CD!
To: Overtaxed
Haven't we been here before? They're mostly leaving because they have to, and because it's time for the humans now. And it isn't their ring problem, it was Sauron's doing! He's the one who corrupted the Rings and made that nasty soul-destroying One Ring.

LOL! We've been there and done that. But "ring technology" came from the elves and they ought to bear some responsibility to set things right ring-wise.
To: Overtaxed; JenB
Actually, didn't the "ring technology" come from Sauron? He just passed on the knowledge to the elves which they used to create the 3. They just didn't realize his ulterior motives...
Or am I way off on that...
To: Penny1
No, the Elves had the bright idea, and then Sauron learned from them and made his own Ring.

So there! :)
To: JenB
That's where the movie was off. They said that Sauron made all the rings. That could be where Jenny1 got that info.
To: htur_75
Sorry Penny1. Not Jenny1. Oops.
To: JenB
okay, I wondered if I had it backwards....
To: htur_75
LOL, no problem...
I think I'm just remembering the part I read in the Sil incorrectly--which is no big surprise since I wasn't following it all that well when I was reading it, lol.
I think the movie should have at least made it clear that the 3 rings for the elves were made BY the elves, rather than lumping them together with the rings for the dwarves and men. I hope they somehow clarify that later on, that the rings of the elves are different than the others.
To: Penny1
Right! The Elves hid their rings from Sauron...smart move. See...I said something nice about Elves!
To: Overtaxed
You got a bonus point from me. I'm like Sam. I can't ever get enough of hearing about elves. Preferably positive. Hehe.
To: htur_75
Oh don't mind me...I just like to cause trouble every now and then. :)
I never should have seen the movie. It was Elrond's "Men are weak" comment and that stuck-up looking Haldir and his non-merry band that started me elf-bashing!
