Well folkses and friendses, I know you won't believe me (especially since there is a triple precious near) but here is a truth.
I have not read the last 1000 posts nor had opportunity to, for the past five days, because I was in the hospital. After catching up from the trip to Texas early Tuesday AM I went out to water the garden. An hour later I was in the Emergency Room suffering a heart attack. Short version, mild attack, one large artery, partial blockage, very close call with a blood clot, one stint Wed. AM. Came home this morning feeling pretty good and so happy to be around to sprint for the precious with all of you.

Uhm... I guess this would be a bad time to mention it's raining again here in Central Texas, huh?
It's all Bertha's fault!
To: DonnerT
Oh bummer! Well I'm glad it was "mild" and glad you're still with us. Take it easy, okay? BTW....have you watched the DVD yet?

Uhm... I guess this would be a bad time to mention it's raining again here in Central Texas, huh? Grrrrrrr.....the lakes need mowing over here.
To: DonnerT
Wow! Welcome back, and glad to have you!
I know how scary a sudden health emergency like that can be. I'm just glad to hear that you're doing well. I trust the prognosis is good?

Ah, very close to my story -- I don't think they called it "Big Gulp", but it was probably the equivalent...

I just went back and looked at my review thread (
HairOfTheDog's Lord of the Rings experience) that I wrote after seeing it one time, to remember what it felt like then, since it is hard to remember. Did any of the rest of you post reviews? If so, it would be fun to hear 'em now, perhaps. It was fun for me to hear mine again... It sounds like another person who I almost agree with still, but not quite.
And incidentally, I came back at post 127 after having seen it again and posted this update:
I just saw it again. I absolutely was/am still spellbound. This was not a movie I should have written about after one view. My head was in the right place for the second time through, and was able to appreciate every scene for its contribution without wondering if it was going to be right. Very few of my earlier quibbles with the movie hold water tonight. My favorites remain true, but my raves were far too understated.
Was interesting for me to revisit that thread.

Ohmygosh!!!!! You should see just the certificate that Kia gave me to order the DVD!! It is fantastic! A 3D card that with all the main characters on it. It looks like they are 3 dimensional, no kidding!
I have to call a number, and request the DVD. I don't know whether or not they will give me a choice about wide or full screen. Let you know in a sec.
Go do the test drive!!! It's worth it for the cotton-pickin' certificate (which you keep...you don't send it in...you just call the number on the back and give them the certificate number.)

Wow - I am glad it was mild and that you are OK - Happy to hear that you are feeling pretty good and can join us again!
Are we supposed to let you win the precious now?
To: 2Jedismom
You could just auction off your certificate number in the Hobbit Hole!
To: HairOfTheDog
Nope, I never posted a review... I didn't even join the Forum until May 19. Gosh, hard to believe I've only been here going on 3 months!
To: 2Jedismom
The certificate sounds very cool! ... and collectible... hmmm.... time to go visit eBay, I think....

I already ordered the DVD to my address. They didn't give you the option of wide or full...if it's full, I'll take it to Walmart and exchange it for a full. My mom wants it. She ordered the one I got with the tee-shirt but not one for herself, so I'm giving this one to her.

Again, many thanks for another thoughtful reply. I guess it's just as well that I barely noticed and didn't mention the point about the elves. My list was heading towards 35 when I decided to make cuts to keep it to 30. Clearly, I've brought the shadow of Mordor into the glades of Lothlorien and upset the
snooty elves.
I thought as you did that the story would have worked better as a mini-series. I suspect that the mini-series idea was dismissed because it wouldn't have made enough money to cover production costs. The animation in a movie of this kind must be very expensive.
Have you read Stephen King's The Stand or seen the mini-series? It's about the same length as the trilogy and was made into a mini-series at one time. I've read the book but never saw the mini-series. I wonder how good a job someone did on it. Because it would need few special effects, the cost wouldn't require a great commercial success.

Uh oh... thunder and lightning here. I think the Forces of Evil are conspiring to keep me from the Precious!
If I disappear suddenly, I either got knocked offline, or found a birthday present...
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Or got swept away by a twister!
To: HairOfTheDog
Oops - wrong movie! ;~D
To: Overtaxed
Aaa, errr,, been a little too distracted to even think about it.

Have you read Stephen King's The Stand or seen the mini-series? No. I'm not really into Stephen King.
upset the snooty elves
Hehehe. Welcome to the club. I've upset a few elves before too!
Have you ever listened to LOTR the BBC radio show? I have that on 13 audio cassettes and it's closer to the story although they cut out the part about the Old Forest and Tom Bombadil.
