Well, that is about at the midpoint. The two-disk bootleg breaks in half right after Frodo says "I will take the ring to Mordor" Before he says "But I do not know the way"

We had stopped in earlier Monday evening to make sure the video would be available at midnight... the checkout girl looked completely baffled, trying to figure out why we would make a special midnight trip just to get it.
We haven't watched it yet. (sigh) I know that if I wallow around in the movie and the special features like I want to, it will most likely take 5 hours... and we don't have that much time from when we get home from work to when we have to go to bed. I'm afraid the video may have to wait until Friday night, when I don't have to worry about getting up for work the next day.

Syd Field the screenwriters' guru would call that the "Midpoint".

You just ordered a DVD-ROM right? You'll have to tell us what we are missing! Hehehe....as soon as I get the thing working. It's just the drive. I have to find software for the DVD part and a 4-pin and 2-pin connector to get the audio. The connecters from my ancient CDROM doesn't fit the pins on the new drive. GRRRRRR

The two-disk bootleg breaks in halfWhat an awful place to split the movie!

What, you mean like that Constitution-thing? Is that old thing still around? < /sarcasm >

It was kind-of a bad place to break the movie! - but I set it up as a "playlist" in Media Player, and it moved from one right to the other with only a brief blip.

Hello folks, just sitting here gnashing my teeth while you enjoy yourselves. How about you DVD enabled types telling us poor souls what is the best sort of device to get. All I can do is watch the FOTR ads on the TV. I also suppose it will be on pay for view TV within a couple of weeks, since Harry Potter has been on that for a week now.

Good night, sleep well!

I went to Walmart to get some of Matthew's presents for his birthday on the 6th...two different people in front of me were buying it! I couldn't help but blurt out that I had got mine the day before. I got the usual looks of "Why are you talking to me? I don't know you!" People are just so unfriendly nowadays.

Missed the Access Hollywood feature here too, got home too late. Saw a couple of different commercials for the DVD!

How about you DVD enabled types telling us poor souls what is the best sort of device to get. Yes, Yes! I second that. I'm going to be in the market (according to my "master plan", just about the time that the Special Edition comes out).

Thanks for the link, which I have bookmarked. Did you see my response to what you said about Arwen, about 50=100 posts back?

They're probably just ticked they missed out on the t-shirt.

Cool, I'll try to catch it! Off for home now on a crisp and lovely New England summer afternoonGreetings from another MA freeper and Tolkien fan, though we're in FL right now on vacation. Our oldest is at school at UMass Amherst, going into his fifth and final (we hope) year! I hope by the time we get home, it will have cooled to the normal mid-late August temps.

Thanks for the linkYou're welcome!
Did you see my response to what you said about Arwen
Yes I did, thank you for reminding me of it, because I wanted to respond.
For me, LOTR is a great tragedy. All through the story, and especially at the end (The Scouring of the Shire and its aftermath) I have the feeling that something great and wonderful is passing/has passed away, and the world has become the lesser for it. Bilbo and Frodo boarding the Grey Ship and sailing into the West is, to me, clearly a metaphor for their deaths; no mortal can set foot in the Undying Lands, after all. Sam goes home to his children; Merry and Pippin go on to have many "ordinary" adventures; but the "magic" has passed.
To me, this is best summed up in the part of The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen in Appendix A of ROTK, especially when Arwen goes to Lorien, after the death of Aragorn:
"Then she said farewell to Eldarion, and to her daughters, and to all whom she had loved; and she went out from the city of Minas Tirith and passed away to the land of Lorien, and dwelt there alone under the fading trees until winter came. Galadriel had passed away and Celeborn also was gone, and the land was silent."
There was no more magic.
