Making fun of movies is enjoyable only so long as the movie isn't supposed to be stupid....like those movies on MST.
To: Overtaxed
Another MSTie?
To: Overtaxed
I think MST got its inspiration entirely from RHPS... RHPS was a campy movie just like those they show, before MST existed. RHPS developed a MST-type fan-base that made up lines and stunts to go along with it.
I can understand you not getting it unless you have seen it in a theater with a good participating audience. It really does make all the difference.
People dress up and act things out, the rest of the audience throws rice at the wedding, and sprays water when it is raining... and inject lines into it that change the whole meaning of the dialogue, just like MST.

OK then... it is definately not for everybody!
To: HairOfTheDog
Well...OK, then! Sue me! :)

No I mean it... It is not for everybody! I mean, if you don't like FoTR, I may think you are whacked... but there are a lot of normal people who should
never see RHPS.
Funny thing is, my mother always wanted to go... she had heard about it, or had a friend that loved it, or something like that, and wanted me to take her. I steadfastly refused. I said "Mom, I need to protect you from this! Please don't go!"
And she wasn't exactly a prude... I took her to see Pink Floyd's The Wall, and she went with me to a Rush concert once, partly to chaperone me, but also because she liked it!
I should say " I took her to see Pink Floyd's The Wall, and she understood it!

I wasn't exactly "horrified" with RHPS, I just thought it was....dumb. The audience participation part was fun but not enough to make me want to see it again.

I saw RHPS several times in my "yoot" as Hair calls it. I don't remember any of it.
Ahhh, a nice new page!
To: 2Jedismom
Yes, it is an experience best left to the yoots!

I have finished the first book of Orson Scott Card's
Homecoming series:
Memory of Earth.
I was taken aback at first by the casual way sex is depicted, the actual acts are not depicted at all, but the casual way marriage contracts were discarded for new ones, etc.
However, as I got into it I could lay that aside and focus on the story which is a variation on the patriarch Abraham and how he was called by God.

How do you actually like the book? My impression is that Card takes morality seriously, though I don't remember whether or not he's religious.
I liked the first and last of the Ender's Game series quite a bit, though I wasn't too sure about the middle two. Ender's Shadow was the best of those, I think.
Have started, at JenB's recommendation, Otherland and am liking it so far. An improvement on William's last series, IMHO, the one with Green Angel Tower, etc.

I liked the book. It eventually got to where I really didn't want to put it down. I looked for the
Ender series because I remembered it being talked about here, but my library only had a couple of the books. They had all of the
Homecoming series though, so I decided to read those instead.
I am not sure how Card views morality. His views on sexuality, as reflected in this book, left something to be desired, in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't give it to my 11 year old daughter to read.
This series defintitely has strong Biblical overtones. Card has taken elements from the lives of Abraham and Joseph, so far, and used them in his storyline.
I've started the second book and the story is still holding my interest. There are five books in all. I would recommend you pick up Memory of Earth and give it a try.

Hey OT, you heard of these guys? They are pretty good! They apparently were in The Titanic (never saw it) but they are coming to Tulsa in September.

No at least not that I can remember :) The only Celtic groups I'm familiar with are The Chieftains and Clannad.

I think my posting of that pint has left everyone stunned speechless.
