I think MST got its inspiration entirely from RHPS... RHPS was a campy movie just like those they show, before MST existed. RHPS developed a MST-type fan-base that made up lines and stunts to go along with it.

I can understand you not getting it unless you have seen it in a theater with a good participating audience. It really does make all the difference.

People dress up and act things out, the rest of the audience throws rice at the wedding, and sprays water when it is raining... and inject lines into it that change the whole meaning of the dialogue, just like MST.
