Just about 9:00. Eight gallons of fresh picked green beans in the freezer and a mess for dinner tomorrow. This Hobbit is blessed.

I'm not really into reading verse so I'm legend deprived. :)I LOVE verse, and my senior English teacher didn't dwell on it too much, especially from the Medieval period, so I'm looking forward to doing that in homeschooling with the kids. We'll be doing Beowulf, the Kalevala, Chaucer, etc. They may not be thrilled, but I'm gonna love it!
My oldest studied Beowulf in a college English class and he said it was amusing that there have been several translations of it, with each author interpreting it in different ways! Sometimes the author would just make something up if it suited his purpose! He said his teacher favored the Seamus Heaney translation, so we may use that.

Oh man, there's nothing better than having green beans in the middle of winter that you put up the previous summer!! Unless of course it is FIELD PEAS! (with a little mayo on them and some hot corn bread; mmm, mmm now THAT'S some good eatin'!)

Oh, good for you! The Heaney-Beowulf is definitely the best - having the Anglo-Saxon and the English side by side was cool, and it was a good story, too. Make sure you find Tolkien's essay on Beowulf, "The Monsters and the Critics". It's wonderful.
As for Kalevala, make sure you get a good translation. I recommend the Kirby translation. It may be out of print but a good library will have it. You may feel an odd sense of deja vu while reading Kalevala; it's very reminiscent of Tolkien's elf-legends. Some of the names are very similar, and the tale of Turin Turambar is based very closely on an episode in Kalevala.
Also, Longfellow's Hiawatha poem follows the same rythm-structure of Kalevala. If you read the two aloud, you'll notice the beat being so similar. It's an interesting similarity and I understand purposeful.

Thanks for all that info, JenB. I'll be sure to look for the Kirby translation of the Kalevala!

Hey, all...
Just saw a notice on the News side that FR will be down from 1 am to 3 am PST Monday morning (I guess that's 4 am to 6 am EST). Don't know if any of the East coast Hobbits are still up to see this message, but just in case...
Have a good night all!

Good Morning!
Thanks for the cheery greeting but I think I'll need a new cup of coffee.

Good morning, Hair and everyone! That was very cute! ;)
Back from my little trip down the coast--it was so beautiful down there (when we could see the landscape through the rain ;) ).

I probably won't even try to catch up with everything you guys talked about this weekend. Can't wait till the trailer hits the official site!!! It will be screencap time again ;)
BTW, I came back home to a fried DSL modem adaptor, so I'm stuck with dialup for a few days....ugh. :(
Have a great day everyone!

I'm stuck with dialup for a few days....ugh. :( Welcome to the crowd! :)
My ISP finally has cable connection available....to pay or not to pay, that is the question!

Good morning everyone...
Let's start a new page! (At least for some Hobbits...)
Hope everyone has a good start to the week!

Is it Thursday yet?

Is it Thursday yet? I'd be happy with Wednesday night, about 7 pm...

Hehehe....me too! I think I need a vacation.

Yes, I read that! So...how much are you going to charge for future gigs? :)

I believe this was the quietest weekend in the Hole I've ever seen. I remember after the FOTR came out, the weekends barely slowed us down. I'm looking forward to getting back to those days when TTT comes out!

I'm so glad your performance went well. Boy, when you take something up you don't go halfway do you? ;^)
BTW, nice pic of you and Walden. It is nice to be able to put a face with a name here in our cozy little hole.

Good morning, and also glad to hear your first performance went well. First of many, perhaps?

I don't know. Practice became a dire necessity instead of enjoyable. I'm glad now I can get back to just playing my little tunes. I suppose I'd like to play for people again, but not so formally. I can see me playing where people have the choice of listening or walking off...
I'd put a can out. LOL That would be hysterically funny!
