Why Is There No Accountability for John Thune?
The American Spectator ^ | 5 Nov. 2026 | Scott McKay

The Senate GOP’s biggest failure shouldn’t get a promotion to minority leader.

I suppose I’ve become cynical enough that it’s very rare to read something that shocks me into a cough or a spit-take, but I nearly had one when I saw this on Wednesday…

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., vowed that Republicans “will not stand idly by as the far-left, socialist wing of the Democrat Party attempts to unwind everything we’ve done.”

Thune’s pledge early Wednesday came after Democrats captured control of both chambers of Congress in a sweeping midterm election victory, prompting conservatives to demand accountability from Republican leaders.

In a lengthy post on X, Thune defended the GOP’s record under President Donald Trump, citing tax cuts, border security, judicial confirmations, and economic policies he said benefited American families.

“Over the last two years, Senate Republicans have put up a strong record of accomplishment that’s created safer streets, more money in Americans’ pockets, and new opportunities for families and businesses to get ahead,” Thune wrote.

This was Thune’s X post. It’s worth clicking on just to see the utterly brutal ratio Thune received. I’ll confess that if you scroll through, you’ll see my contribution as well. [X post at article source]

While Thune was touting his utterly meager achievements as the Senate Majority Leader before losing that job amid what looks like a nine-seat turnover (not a single pickup, and losses in nine states, most of which were thought to be unlosable) in Tuesday’s midterms, House Speaker Mike Johnson was giving a dignified resignation as the GOP’s caucus leader in that body.

There isn’t any justice in Johnson returning to the back bench in the House and Thune sticking around to misrule the GOP Senate caucus after what happened Tuesday.

A bill passed in the House and sent to the Senate to stop $40 million a week from going to the Taliban and Thune has not even read it. That is pitiful.

The GOP knows exactly what it’s doing.

They are the Whigs. They will never have significant power ever again. That’s the way they want it.

Thune’s actions in the senate are directly responsible for this fiasco. Zero recess appointments for Trump. Filibuster intact, no SAVE act. All directly led to Tuesday’s results. We could have had it all, but thanks to one man the democrats will have it all instead. Someone should have a word with him.

I’ll grant one last thread to Thune - if the 2026 elections turn out to have been a colossal setup to prove once and for all that our elections are fraudulent, then Thune played a key role by preventing any impediment to the fraudsters’ overreach.

If nothing happens to the fraudsters - again - then Thune is this year’s Paul Ryan and he needs to be exiled to Greenland.

Thune should not be minority leader. He’s probably a very nice guy, but he doesn’t seem to have what we’ll need going forward.

This reminds me of a quote: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”, attributed to more than one person. Nevertheless true.

And one can certainly speculate as to wether or not they were good in the first place.

We get no say on who is minority leader. It will be decided of what’s left in the 44 or 46 members left in ‘the club’. Secret ballot-am I right? Scott in Florida is a no-Governor/ Old. Not a pretty face like the democrats put out front.

Thune’s gotta go. Make them all disclose who they voted for.

Murkowski needs to be taken out. We need to pull our own Dan Sullivan in Alaska or find a democrat we can work with and openly support. Can’t be worse than Lisa.

He must know where a lot of bodies are buried. Now he can gleefully assume the role of back bencher. No power, no accountability, lots of under the table cash.

History is repeating itself. Former House Speaker Paul Ryan handicapped Trump during his first term. Now, John Thune has damaged the Trump during his second term. Ryan stupidly accepted the Russian collusion hoax as true. Thune is too cowardly to lead.

Rich RINOs need to go back to the Democrat party . The missing Democrat moderates are the invasive RINOs.

RINOs suck

“He’s probably a very nice guy, but he doesn’t seem to have what we’ll need”

Thune is not a nice guy, and he had exactly what the Democrats needed to take back the Congress and soon the White House.

He was very successful in his efforts and in reaching his goals for his NWO masters.

If Republicans had held Congress he would still be hindering and making sure nothing was done for two more years, nothing advanced for President Trump, no recess appointments, no agenda to stop the onslaught of NWO Globalists plans and schemes for America, zero.

Thune would just be waiting until the Democrats arrived in 2028, where he could then go back to pretending to be a “conservative” and maybe pretend to be a little “angry” and even “upset” at Democrats.

Just as Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan were the installed losers for Obama. Thune played his role as well or even better as it was needed more. Romney and Ryan would’ve continued the NWO march to hell if they had won unexpectedly, where President Trump is not playing along.

And Thune will also be sure to ‘privately’ assign all blame to President Trump.

Republicans like Thune never face accountability.

That is only meted out to conservatives.

Bad enough that the socialists won but now Thune is trying to continue being on a leadership position.
Mookabooker should be keel hauled.

He did nothing to help Trump and everything he could to stop him from getting things done. Lord, please don’t let him become minority leader. OT -— who wants to bet Fetterman has had enough and switches parties?
