Hollywood director and producer Michael Mann has been rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting himself whilst at a gun range.
The film-maker, 83, was at a gun range in Los Angeles when the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at around 4pm.
A source told TMZ that Mann, best known for his 1995 film Heat, was trying to holster his firearm when the weapon fired and he was shot in the leg.
He was taken to hospital in an ambulance, while police and fire crews were in attendance.
Police confirmed to TMZ that the incident took place at The Range LA, a members-only indoor shooting club in the west of the city.
The gun range typically caters to Hollywood elites, studio executives and high-profile actors, with annual memberships starting from around $3,000 to $20,000, according to The Mirror.
The police report added that Mann did not purposely shoot himself, and was 'injured during a training accident when he accidentally discharged a firearm into his own leg'.
Mann's publicist told Daily Mail: 'On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released.'
Mann has directed a series of major films, including Manhunter (1986), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Ali (2001) and Collateral (2004).

There’s a movie script inside this incident, methinks...
Think he also produced the Miami vice series too
Expect another one:
"The 83-year-old filmmaker isn’t folding up his director’s chair yet, either, as he is currently working on the sequel to Heat, one of his most popular films. Heat 2 is set to begin filming shortly and already has a pretty stellar cast attached to it, including Stephen Graham, Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio."

I'd bet on Glock leg.
Gotta "gat" like the boyz.
Forgot the booger hook/bang switch rule.
I guess all the dead characters from Heat 1 can’t reprise their roles.
Given his age and tendency toward self harm, he may want to do what Mel Brooks is doing.

Glock
I’ve been waiting for “Hitler On Ice” since 1981!
A number of negligent discharges when reholstering a semi-automatic pistol without an external safety is that something such as a jacket drawstring cord lock hanging in the holster forces the trigger when the handgun is pushed down into the holster.
One option for Glock owners is to install a "striker control device" also know as "The Gadget". It installs on the back of the slide so that if you thumb the back of the slide when you’re reholstering, it blocks rearward motion of the striker and the trigger, preventing the gun from firing.

Added keyword “banglist” to your post.
You got that. HEAT was fantastic. I saw it one day in Atlanta in a nearly empty theater, then went back and saw it 3 times in 2 days. The first time, the shootout sequence was a surprise, a big surprise. I’ve really enjoyed his films, and I’m hoping he hasn’t retired yet. Hope he recovers quickly and well.
CARELESSNESS. It should never happen. Finger. Off. The . Trigger…..
Most users who Glock themselves while reholstering their handgun don't have their finger on the trigger but instead have the trigger caught on something in the holster.
Global warming caused the gun to discharge.
I have a Glock 43 pocket pistol I carry. I "palm it" in out of my pocket. A Glock Leg or testical is bad juju.
At 83 yrs old He should be Smart
