The Jungle Devours Europe - Half a billion Europeans should be able to defend themselves.

The European Union has over four-hundred-fifty million people. The non-E.U. nations of Europe — including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Moldova, and Albania but excluding Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Turkey — have another hundred million people. Combined, Europe has over two hundred million more people than the United States and over four hundred million more people than the Russian Federation. As an “associate member” of the E.U., Canada would give Europe another forty million bodies.

There is no reason why Europe should struggle to defend itself with this kind of population advantage. In fact, it is downright embarrassing that it depends on Americans from the other side of the ocean to secure its borders when the United States (with its significantly smaller population) has military obligations throughout the world. It has been eighty years since the Second World War, and somehow the European Establishment still hasn’t figured out how to survive without American money and muscle.

Professors and pundits toss out all kinds of reasons why this is the case: The Europeans were saddled with debt and destruction after two continental wars within thirty years and had to rebuild much of their infrastructure and manufacturing capacity. As the Soviet Union and the U.S.-led allies carved up post-war Europe, the Cold War froze the continent in a state of transition for the next half-century. U.S. political leaders embraced America’s transformation into a global empire with global responsibilities. Peace in post-WWII Europe seemed fragile, and parts of Europe appeared broken; two generations had been lost to war and depression, and a sense of nihilism extinguished much of the early-twentieth-century exuberance that pervaded the continent before the First World War.

All of this is true. Still, there is no excuse for the continent to be struggling with the responsibilities

The welfare state wastes all of the money. We should not bail them out.

The EU could have all the money and people to defend itself but if they lack the will, it won’t matter.

The American policy of providing for Europe's defense, subsidizing it massively and allowing it to have a one sided trading relationship whereby they got almost unfettered access to the American market while they erected all kinds of tariffs and non tariff barriers against American exports made sense in the immediate aftermath of a second world war in 2 generations which left Europe devastated and bankrupt. After all, we needed to stabilize the democratic governments we had either restored or installed, and we wanted to have real allies capable of doing something in case the Soviets decided to embark upon world conquest. At that time the US commanded FIFTY PERCENT of global GDP which is a percentage no empire in history had ever remotely approached. That was also unsustainable and everybody knew it. We could afford to be magnanimous and ultimately it was in our national interest to be. It worked brilliantly and in the 50s and 60s, Europe and Japan rebounded strongly, those democratic governments were stabilized and all of the former Axis powers became solid allies.

That policy should have been gradually rolled back to a more equal footing starting at least as early as the mid 1960s but it wasn't. The Europeans especially became very fat and happy and decided to freeload on Uncle Sugar just as long as they could. American political leaders stupidly allowed them to get away with it for another 50 years! It all had to end eventually and when Trump came to office saying the same thing many of us had been saying since at least the end of the Cold War in 1991, the post WWII policy finally started to change.

What's the old saying....when you're used to privilege equality feels like oppression? That's exactly what's going on now. The Europeans and Canadians are having a snit because now they're going to have to start playing on a level playing field.

Good points about the 81 years that the US taxpayer has subsidized the defense of Europe. I still remember the Brits under Harold Wilson and the French under DeGaulle sending ships of supplies to the North Vietnamese; we could not bomb Haiphong Harbor for fear of hitting one of the “allies’” ships. Let them stand on their own, draft their own young men (and now women) and fight their own battles.

In Spain, net migration has hit record highs. In late July, an estimated 70,000 illegal immigrants surged into a small Spanish territory in northern Africa. Spanish authorities deployed the military and extra police to send many back and turn away others.

Across Spain, the numbers are staggering. The foreign-born population is now about 19%, or 9.4 million people. Meanwhile, there’s a housing shortage of more than 700,000 units. Upfront costs for immigrant housing, healthcare and integration are rising.

bingo This parasitism by a welfare state on others is the only reason CaCaLand can support itself and buy its votes from its resident indentured servants. It lives off the Fed $$ supplied by the other 49 states.
Every program in the state has its monies re-apportioned how the state politicos desire, including into their pockets. Any Fed $$ with “earmarks” for some specific service (e.g., Covid crappola) are re-apportioned within the state. Fire relief $$ are the same. Ditto for “homeless”.
Every single time, every single dollar.

Europe refuses to defend itself against Islam, and as Demographics is Destiny and there is a disparate birth rate that favors muslims, Europe WILL eventually be a Muslim caliphate.
