They are pretty rare nowadays but still out there, I keep an old jacket and have stuff in the vehicle in case I see one on the highway or interstate who is unprepared, or looks like they have been out in the sun too long.

I see it all the time in my small mountain town, hitchhiking backpackers, looking for a ride to the trailhead.

The last time I saw a “hitchhiker”, it was a woman - when I slowed down, I saw a big Black guy lurking behind a nearby tree and opted to not stop.
