Reminds me of the ‘Great Escape’ movie. A POW character played by James Gardner escapes and steals a plane in that film.
Good movie, loosely based on real events.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Except the plane he stole crashed before it got to Switzerland.
I thought of the Clint Eastwood movie. “Firefox”.
In this case, “You Must Think In German”.
Too bad they don’t make a movie about these actual people, just WW2 capeshit fiction.
The German equivalent was Franz von Werra, numerous escape attempts in both england, Scotland and Canada. memorialized in the “One that Got away” movie.
(Hardy Krueger was great in this)

In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled An American pilot spent almost 16 months inside a German POW camp. Then he escaped. He found a German Fw 190, climbed inside a fighter he had never flown before and stole it. Then he flew it to freedom., Nateman wrote: Reminds me of the ‘Great Escape’ movie. Maybe they based the episode on this hero?
I recall watching an episode of NCIS in which the leading man (forget his name) lands a cargo aircraft far too big for an aircraft carrier, on an actual aircraft carrier. I liked the episode and was stunned at the end of it that they showed the actual event photograph - massive cargo plan on the carrier. Wish they made the names of these heros easier to call to mind - not some NCIS actor, not some Garner. NOthing against the actors, but how much of this goes by without acknowledging the original?
“The great escape” is exactly what I thought of.
My thought too
