Why Corporate America's Boardrooms Are Becoming More Indian Than Ever

After decades of climbing the executive ranks at US companies, more men of Indian descent are now entering the boardroom. A record 16 Indian men joined S&P 500 boards this year, taking directorships at companies including Walmart Inc., Southwest Airlines Co. and Western Digital Corp., according to ISS-Corporate and data provider Equilar. Only White men and women added more seats.

The surge caps a longer shift. The share of Indian men among directors at Fortune 500 and S&P 500 companies has tripled since 2018, outpacing increases for women, Black and Hispanic directors, according to data from James Drury Partners.

The boardroom gains come as companies put increased emphasis on directors with chief executive officer or operating experience - credentials that many Indian business leaders have accumulated after decades in the US, according to recruiters and the executives themselves. Of the 184 Indian men on Fortune 500 and S&P 500 boards, 77 per cent have operating, or so-called profit-and-loss, backgrounds, the James Drury data show. Roughly two-thirds have held CEO roles.

Tough to argue with real results data & I’m glad to read you are providing feedback to him on a potential future issue. I would tell him that the current results are why he is valued and maintaining the current chemistry/culture of the organization is critical for those results.

There is little to prevent women, black or hispanic directors to be coming from a Christian background, however, that is compatible with American constitutional order, our Founding ideals and Bill of Rights.

I read Slashdot comments https://slashdot.org and over the years and it is a common thing for people from India to get rid of everyone and replace with people from India.

At the company I retired from in nov 2021, a guy from India who lived in the USA was hired (maybe 2018) and he was 4 levels above my manager in the Help Desk I worked in.

Once he was hired then word went out that all senior execs had to move to New Jersey from California where I am located. Many just found other jobs. In the end they would have been fired if they did move.

Then the 3 positions below him, the managers, all white guys were replaced and the manager who hired me many years before who was now a director said to our manager to say he was not fired but decided to quit like the others... He was 61.

Our manager found another job about two years later after notifying the higher ups. The supervisor quit just 2 months after he left with no notice to the hire ups (they both work now at the same new company). His original plan was to wait for the director to retire then he would be promoted. It was not ever going to happen for other reasons.

The office was closed in July 2025 and about 300 people lost their jobs. The jobs went overseas or taken over by 3rd party companies.
