Why is everyone getting so upset?
This is not way out of line.
In that state with appropriate paperwork body transport is legal. It costs thousands for funeral home transport.
This was normal for some families less than 100 years ago.
Handling a body includes shrouding it... usually in a paper shroud or a sheet.
The death is a tragedy... the transport is a normal duty.

A friend’s dad spilled herbicide on himself while loading a sprayer and his mom drove the dad into town to the county hospital (W Texas).
He died that day and the family took him back to the ranch for burial in the family plot.
This was about 1976. What was considered normal was changed by state laws.
