I would love to see a cascading series of AI systems that could replace our current (failed) justice system.

AI system #1 — a local system, no connection to the internet. Load it with state laws and statutes and applicable federal laws (such as the Constitution). Load it with evidence from the trial, as presented by the Defense and Prosecution. Make sure that no outside information is allowed to contaminate it.

AI system #2 — Takes information only from the first system and replaces all information about Names, Sex, and Race. Everything becomes “Person A stated that Person B was decapitated at the scene.” Justice ought not to depend on some people getting away with crimes because they have hormones or because they have dark skin. Have an AI system strip out all such identifying information. It is not relevant. All are equal under the law.

AI system #3 — Take the information only from AI system #2. Based on the laws and evidence, ask two questions: Was a crime committed? Did the Defendant commit that crime?

AI system #4 — Based on previous cases involving similar crimes (hit and run involving death, or whatever), what is the typical sentence issued by a court? That should be the recommended sentence in the current case.

Human system — Have a judge look at the case, the evidence, the verdict from the AI systems, and the sentencing recommended by the AI systems. If the human judge thinks that a legal travesty has occurred, or that the AI system is hallucinating, then the human judge can issue a different sentence — but the judge must explain in a written statement, in detail, why the AI system got it wrong. And higher judges should be empowered to impeach lower judges who reveal themselves as Political Activists who ignore valid AI results.
