Our government gives money to both countries monthly so a long drawn out slow a grinding attrition that’s what I’m rooting for

Seems to me we tried that sort of thing before in the middle east, in various ways. Such as propping up Afghanistan to defy the Soviets (which pretty much worked but ended up backfiring on us) or propping up Saddam to counter Iran (mostly worked but ended up backfiring on us.)
Everything backfires in the Middle East. The Romans couldn’t pacify it and they crucified rebels. Build a fence around it . Cut off all contact. It’s a barbarism.
