Nice comparisons with the old English and German. The practice of using "loan words" is happening in Welsh as well. From your example "licodan", the verb "to like", the Welsh have recently adopted "lycio". The German word "lecker" also finds a home in evaluating tasty foods. Linguistics is an interesting field. Had I not been pointed more directly at medical school with Molecular Biology as my major, the field of linguistics was certainly drawing my attention.

So I settled for history with minors in linguistics and geography. It is just as fascinating as linguistics, to see how history and geography have always been intertwined.
