That's the only time I encountered that situation where they confronted jurors with their past. Like you, I'm not sure that should be allowed, but the judge didn't say anything.
I'm 76 and I've been in numerous jury pools, though none lately, and selected to serve on one jury in a civil case. In that same jury pool, the defense attorney asked if anyone could vote on a verdict right now if you had to. I was the only member of the 30-member pool to say yes. He asked me how I would vote and I told him, "Not guilty". I was not selected for that jury though I'd bet the defense wanted me, and I've always suspected the prosecution used one of their blocks to block me.
Your jury experience and mine is very similar. Summoned 5 times, sat on one jury for a home burglary that was a slam dunk guilty.
The public defender asked me a couple of questions during voir dire that I answered in a way I was sure would get me kicked off but nooooo.
It really didn’t matter, it was so obvious he should’ve just plead guilty and at the end of the I did my civic duty.
Side note...in my state after age 72 you don’t get summoned anymore. That may be why you haven’t been served.
