After years of insisting that names are fluid, the left suddenly discovers tradition when Trump picks the name.
In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a forlorn Juliet implores Romeo to give up his family name, that of a family rival to hers. She asks him, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
The same could be said about large bodies of water, still wet and deep regardless of what President Donald Trump names them by executive order.
Most recently, Trump renamed Lake Ontario to Lake America, after renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America last year.

These name changes will be insignificant footnotes in world history, unlike, say, the Louisiana Purchase or America’s purchase of Alaska from Russia.
Yet Democrats and others on the left are acting as if America invaded and conquered Canada.
The New York Times solemnly bemoaned, “Lake Ontario didn’t ask for this.” The Washington Post warned, “Trump’s push to rename Lake Ontario raises a troubling question.”
Such angst.
First of all, lakes don’t talk and don’t pick their names. Or their genders.
Back in 2015, when President Obama renamed Mount McKinley to Denali, all the New York Times had to say was, “Mount McKinley to be renamed Denali.”
Did Mount McKinley ask for this? The Gray Lady was mum on that question.

The only derangement here is Trump’s deranged desire to get something he can call a win. And the idiots that think he can change the names of international bodies of water. Meanwhile, back in reality, it’s another loss for him, and he can’t.
From your profile:
“I’m mellowing out in my old age, which is nice. One of the keys to my mellowing out is having developed a very strong definition of what is and isn’t my business, putting a lot of stuff in the “not my business” category, and learning that the less I bother with things not my business the happier I was. Because of that I pretty much no longer have a position on the social political spectrum, this can be confused for liberal but it isn’t, I really just don’t care about most of those things, people can sort it out without me.”
Take your own advice.
I am mellow. But no amount of mellow changes that fact that every time Trump pretends he can change the name of things he’s just being a petulant child. And you attacking people for pointing out he’s a petulant child is sad. Grow up, stop excusing bad behavior. Recognize that he’s an idiot.
And with that I’ll give you the last word. I won’t read it. Because you’re not worth the time. Buh bye
Shove your OPINION. I don’t buckle to punks.
I love him doing it and maybe YOUR the problem.
I recognize that you are an idiot.
