Interesting. I suppose I'm in this statistic, since I've been called conservative many times and have manic depression.
Personally, I don't think it's the illness itself that makes some people so insane. It's their ideology. Leftism is an abandonment of rational thought and concrete concepts. It makes feelings the be-all and end-all of human intellect. Such people are ill fit to be the population of civilized society.
Take God out of the human condition and all that is left is a fallen individual without hope. No wonder so many liberals have lost their minds.

Are conservatives less likely to put faith in so called mental health professionals and therefore less likely to turn up as diagnosed and medicated?
Not all Democrats are psych patients but every psych patient I’ve encountered is a Democrat.
I would say the stats are cut out at 29 because Prozac was first approved ten years earlier for children over 8. Their big customer base was just being born and every doctor couldn’t wait to give SSRIs to children. Include the change of the DSM-3 and DSM-4 to include every single human trait a mental illness requiring very profitable medication (instead of simple life changes like exercise and good diet). And 29 years ago is when the internet really started taking off. People can self diagnose and find doctors happy to prescribe anything for everything. Look at stats along that timeline and there is geometric expansion after the homo lobby won marriage, social media, and the tranny social contagion. Plus it’s cool to have some sort of mental illness in certain circles. You get treated special (trannies) and gain much unearned social power and protection.
Traveling the country, my experiences are not what FR would call “conducive to FreeRepublic”.
Catholic girls are the most well put together. Jewish girls and half the atheists in a far 3rd place.
Southern Baptists... That’s a different story. So ranking the craziest it would be Southern Baptists, Jehovah’s witness, Lutheran’s and about half of the atheists.
But that’s my take. I’ve only met a few actual conservative women (didn’t surprise me because the major media for 40 years has been turning women against conservativism) and they’ve been Southern Baptist. Other women (and that’s a lot) have conservative viewpoints because the men in their lives do. The moment a divorce happens they go hard left.
Women don’t have a coherent voice. I acknowledge that. It was taken from them by the evil forces of marketing and the media it supports. The idea that women are second class is an idea perpetrated by those women themselves. Like Rap playing a big role in making the black culture feel ... Like it is.

“Mental illness” is a very broad territory. I’d like to know WHICH illnesses they have. (And I’m betting Narcissism and Borderline show up more on the Left, where as Depression might be evenly divided.)

Mental Health has 3 main branches that are totally different.
1) Addiction to alcohol, drugs is a mental health problem, not a sin. This is one of the biggest weights on the Welfare barbells.
2) The elderly have alzheimer or other mental conditions associated with old age.
3) People not in the above who are not normal in their thinking or behavior. These are a much lower cost to the taxpayer.
