Jury in Lindsay Clancy murder trial asks question

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WJAR) — The jury deliberating in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Plymouth Superior Court had a question Friday, but it was not immediately clear what they asked.

Live coverage of the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.

Court came back into session a little after 10 a.m., and the question was apparently discussed and answered at sidebar.

The judge made no mention of it, and court went back into recess as deliberations continue.

Clancy of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is on trial in the strangulation deaths of her three young children -- Cora, Dawson and Callan -- in 2023.

The central question is whether the jury believes she knew what she was doing on the night of the killings.

Her defense says her actions were affected by postpartum psychosis.

The jury can decide if Clancy is not guilty, not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, guilty of first-degree murder, guilty of second-degree murder or guilty of manslaughter.

A not guilty by reason of insanity verdict would see her remain under psychiatric care. Any of the three criminal convictions would result in prison.

Nine women and three men are deciding the case. They were randomly chosen from the 18 jurors seated for the trial.

If the accused was,in fact, experiencing such an imbalance (impossible for anyone to know for sure) I'd say that she was not morally culpable for what she did. If she wasn't: string her up!

Most normal people would believe the taking the life of an innocent person as an act of an insane person.

Could have done it the old Massachusetts way.

Check to see if she is a witch, put her in a dunking chair to see if she floats.

The bigger question is why the press and non-liberals not focusing one bit on the kids...

= = =

I am sickened when I see the pictures of those three lovely children.

Why isn’t everyone?

Look, this will be an unpopular opinion but I really don’t care.

This woman clearly slipped into a deep psychosis due to the amateurish psychiatric care she received when she reached out. She was on multiple overlapping psychotropic medications that will (bleep) you up big time even if you’re 100% healthy.

Obamacare (Romneycare) failed her, and failed her children.

If that wasn’t bad enough, that demonic hag Maura Healey signed into law legislation that allows women to legally abort their children right up to birth, with a bunch of clapping seals all around her. So, abortion is *celebrated* up till birth but we’ll nail you to the cross if our screwed up medical system leaves you in the gutter.

This trial is about much more than the killing of three innocent children. It’s an indictment of how society treats women and mothers, and how we still treat mental illness as a stigma. Women, especially during and after pregnancy, are walking chemistry labs. We need to do a much better job supporting them.

Me? It’s clear that she’s beyond remorseful. She’s utterly destroyed and will probably take herself out the moment she is able. Life is over for her. There is no punishment worse than what she already lives with. Not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. She’ll be a hospital for a very long time but at least she’ll get treatment.

There’s an excellent YouTube from yesterday with Allan Jackson as the guest that lays this out superbly.

If she murdered her children it was a red rage, revenge killing against her husband. That marriage was over, he made several overnight trips to NYC, went on a four day ski trip the day after she was released from a mental facility. No one can tell me he wasn’t on his way OUT. We will never know what happened in that house before the murders, he can try to testify everything was ok but she snapped.

The real elephant in the room is his wrongful death, malpractice lawsuits against the multiple hospitals and providers. Of course he wants to testify that she was mentally insane, a great mother, wife and person killed his children because of over medicated, bad diagnosis from inept medical care.

The real reason she has the support of those women.

She’s walks and is celebrated as a feminist icon and goes on the view.

Well, not quite. She paralyzed herself from the waist down when she jumped from a second story window after strangling all three children. She might roll with it...

I just haven't been able to wrap my head around this case. We've had cases like Susan Smith, who killed her two sons, who genuinely seemed aware and consciously murdered her boys for a life without them. Then there was Andrea Yates, who killed her five children due to what she claimed was a deep psychosis. Yates was found not guilty by a Texas jury, and she is now confined to a mental hospital, twenty years later.

I tend to put this case more in line with what Yates did than what Smith did.

While it is horrific that these three young children were killed by their own mother, I haven't seen evidence that there was malice. Even the prosecution admits she was having mental problems-but assert that the required threshold of the lack of knowledge of right and wrong was not evident here.

What does seem clear is that Clancy is a shell of a person. She comes across as deeply lost, as she probably would be as she becomes more aware of the consequences of her own acts. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for her to wake up each day. Of course, those children won't ever have a chance to wake up. Just sadness all around. My prayer is that God is holding those dear children in His loving arms, and the mother will find some sense of forgiveness in the hope that her life might have some meaning.

“random” is a lie. All jurors are vetted. If either side is crafty they can stack a jury so that any 12 chosen at random is still fixed.

This is how you spot commie trash lies — look into the details and pretend YOU are the one in charge of figgering out how to corrupt it.

That is an utter load of bull****.

She murdered three children with malice afore thought.

She deserves a speedy execution and nothing more.

Murder is murder, but first degree implies premeditiation.

If she crashed out and straight up killed the kids, that’s not premeditated.

She’ll be a hospital for a very long time but at least she’ll get treatment.

The death penalty is the only appropriate "treatment" in this case.

That is an unpopular opinion. And it won't happen anyway.

Women who break in the manner of killing their own children are unsalvageable. Mental health "treatment" in such cases does not work. It is a pretense to make other people feel better about not being "too judgmental".

Women who have been acquitted in such cases by reason of insanity are a shell of their former selves and usually spend the rest of their lives in an institution of some kind. Some of them commit suicide. One of those pathways is the best we can expect in this case.

The crowd of women supporting a child-killer is a more serious long-term problem. None of those women can ever be trusted again with any children, including their own.
