I’m just waking up from a 80 year delerium sleep. I cannot believe that two men can be considered a “couple.” What have I awakened into?
Well, it happens to be the way things are today.
Of course, you can contact the news source and complain about their English language usage - that might give you satisfaction, as if often does me; but it probably wouldn’t change much.

You fell asleep while reading a science fiction novel. It’s about a man who wakes up and find he lives in a world where civilization is on the decline but government is on the rise. A world where people are tracked like cattle. A world where amorality has become an anathema.
You need only to wake up 80 years ago, and escape the nightmare.
