Those shares are probably locked up.
Restricted shares cannot be sold right away. I know I used to have a five year vesting schedule. Once I hit the fifth year, I was able to sell the shares from Year 1. Year six, I could sell some from Year 1 AND year 2.
If I had stayed until Year 10…that would have been lucrative.
If you can’t have it, you aren’t worth that much.
I checked ChatGPT, and Nvidia has a very low percentage of locked up shares.
Nvidia has NO locked up shares for an IPO.
Exactly was my situation. As as mid-level manager, I was awarded company shares for Christmas bonus. But shares were not publicly traded, so no way to cash them in. Eventually my outfit was bought by another company whose shares were listed on NYSE. Then I was able to trade the share.
