Like the cuckoo bird who lays its eggs in other birds’ nests, Colorado’s leftward lurch began some 20 or so years ago and has accelerated steadily ever since, fueled by disaffected cuckoo birds from California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and other assorted pockets of liberal mania, who laid their eggs liberally across their newly usurped state.
To be fair, several formerly conservative states have suffered this fate to varying degrees, but Coloradan transplants have transformed the state with a vengeance. For example, in the 2020 national election, Proposition 115 would have “prohibited abortions in Colorado beyond 22 weeks, the average point of fetal viability, except in cases to protect the life of the mother.” That measure lost by 18 points, so Colorado remains one of only seven states where abortions remain legal up until the moment of birth.
But nothing epitomizes Colorado’s proud, progressive creds like SB25-003 -- the sweeping gun control law that hit the ground on August 1, 2026.
In the early 1980s one could drive a bit outside of Denver towards the hills and pass speed limit signs adorned with bullet holes. Now, however, SB25-003 prohibits
activity involving semiautomatic firearms, and, in connection therewith, prohibiting the manufacture, distribution, transfer, sale, and purchase of specified semiautomatic firearms, classifying a device that increases the rate of fire of a semiautomatic firearm as a dangerous weapon, and making an appropriation.
Specifically, “[T]he act defines a "specified semiautomatic firearm" as a semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine or a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine (emphasis added).”
This bill does not represent an outright ban; gosh, that might violate the 2nd Amendment. Rather, there is now a permit-to-purchase process that law-abiding Coloradans must complete before buying a restricted firearm, the mechanics of which are outlined by

Applicants must obtain a third-party background check, submit an application and supporting documents to a sheriff, pay government fees, locate an approved trainer, complete at least 12 hours of in-person instruction over at least two days, pass a written examination with a minimum passing score of 90 percent, and have personal information submitted to a public database.

Well said. As just one example, Colorado could drag feet on certifying “approved trainers”.
So sign up for an approved trainer, get an appointment five years from now.
Oh, unless you know someone high up in the Colorado Democrat party. Then you’ll get an appointment for the next day. Morning or afternoon (your choice).
It is also a delayed confiscation law. Transfers are prohibited. That means when a current owner dies the gun must be destroyed or turned in to the police.
Sure if they require the same for voting in CO.

They are, but someone has to go be a test case and sue, and appeal when the first leftist activist judge rules, etc., all to demonstrate that duh you can’t do that the Supreme Court already said “no” in Bruen.
You would think that ruling would already quash these lawfare attempts but the people who should say that are the ones writing this tripe.
Unfortunately the thin blue line seems unwilling to uphold their end (with rare exception) by refusing to enforce illegal laws. We all learned that in 2020 and 2021 as officers arrested people alone on beaches, filled in skate parks, etc while the leftist nobility partied.

I can never live in Colorado again due to what I owned when I lived there in 1971.

It appears LOOKS are the main reason for bans. A pistol grip and WHAM! Banned. Why such a fear on how a rifle looks?
That’s kinda how I explained it to the guys at work.
Do you have to pay to take a class before you can read a book? Go to church? Vote? Be free from cruel and unusual punishment?
One sheriff in southern Colorado has already said his office won’t be participating in the enforcement of this crap.
