Rotton Tomato Review On The Odyssey Scrubbed
8/24/2026 | NIkos1121

Posted on 08/24/2026 4:25:42 AM PDT by nikos1121

As a Greek-American, I went to see The Odyssey three weeks ago with eager anticipation. At the time, the Rotten Tomatoes scores had dropped into the 60s—significantly down from the high 90s where they started.

I ended up walking out after 90 minutes. Two other couples had already bailed around the one-hour mark. Only one guy remained sitting up in high right corner of the theater.

It was clearly the worst movie I have ever seen, and after 70 years of watching movies, that says a lot.

My brother, who still lives in Chicago where we grew up, saw it the day before. He leans left but is a sharp, reliable judge of cinema. He thought it was downright terrible, but to his credit, he didn't say a word about it until I’d seen it for myself.

I was furious and deeply disappointed. I felt like I was eight years old again and someone had just stolen my bike.

I was so moved to speak out that I sat down and took the time to write a thoughtful, honest review for Rotten Tomatoes, giving it a well-deserved 1 star. I posted my piece here, too, and almost everyone in the thread agreed with me. Anyone reading my review would know I’d actually watched the film—I pointed out that the classic Sinbad the Sailor movies of my youth were far better than this snoozefest. In closing, I wrote that if I’m ever on my deathbed with only a few hours left to live, I’m going to pray to God to give me back the time I wasted on The Odyssey, including the drive to and from the theater.

Now, to get to the point: the RT scores have somehow bounced right back up to the mid-90s. I went back to read the recent reviews, and they’re almost entirely one-sentence, 5-star fluff posts.

And guess what? My detailed review was completely scrubbed.

Has this happened to anyone else?

And the Libs and soy boys that love the movie think they have the “win” because of Box Office Receipts. Millions buy McDonalds stuff every day. Doesn’t mean McDonalds is a high quality eating experience.

Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Fandango, which operates as a joint venture. Versant (formerly part of NBCUniversal/Comcast) holds a majority stake, and Warner Bros. Discovery retains a minority stake.Ownership History1998:
Created by UC Berkeley undergraduate students Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang.2010–2011: Acquired by Flixster, which was then bought by Warner Bros. in 2011.2016–Present: Sold to Fandango, with Warner Bros. keeping a minority ownership share.

The Rotten Tomatoes Audience score has never been in the 60s. You might be confusing it with another site.

What is a Rotton Tomato?

Why do people on FR enjoy hating this film so much?

Two mysteries I care nothing about.

Since this movie came out, there have been rumors theaters were largely empty even though showings were listed as 'sold out'.

When it first entered theaters, I saw a hype piece on the news. It showed individuals excitedly entering lobbies but there were no crowds. No one showed packed screenings.

Yes, I did like them.

So I figured, the record box office numbers are the result of everyone giving him a pass, IOWs Christopher Nolan can put out a dog, and people are going to watch it, but maybe not the next time.

It will be interesting if he pulls this stunt again with his next movie.

The movie stinks. It is awful, and I’m not talking at all about the wokeness. It is terrible.

For one thing, it could have been cut down to 90 minutes, and probably been a great film, instead scenes tediously go on and on.

Pulling the Trojan horse into the city should have taken one minute of the film. I think it took 20.

AFter watching them pulling this horse for five minutes, I went to the rest room, not that I had to go, but to wash my hands. I took my time.

I came back and they were still pulling.

Here’s the problem with your review. You didn’t see the entire movie. You walked out. That diminishes your review. No matter how bad it was, you can’t review it if you haven’t seen it.

Oh boy. I want you to please send my a private reply about you thought of the movie. I hear that the IMAX version is quite the spectacle, and I am sure as a visual experience it would be quite a feast seen that way. I saw it in a regular theater.

However, my problem was not with the visual aspect. There’s no question it was breath taking from a photographic stand point. Why wouldn’t it be, it was filmed in the Greek Islands.

I found the screenplay laughable. The dialogue is a joke. Listen to the script, esp Matt Damon’s lines. A ten year old could write better.

The movie is tedious, slow and boring. 3 hours? No way. BEn Hur, Gone With the Wind, The Titanic. etc. This movie should have been 90 minutes.

Thanks for the post.

Early on, I disagreed with RT ratings. I decided that the complement was more likely. A 97% score would mean a 3% chance that it was good. If a movie received a 5% score, it might be right for me.

So now you indicate that the ratings and reviews are rigged. Good to know. Perhaps a fraudulent rating is better than bad judgement from so many people.

“Gone With the Wind”

Dumb waste of 3 hours I’ll never get back. How can anyone like this movie?

“Titanic”?

DiCaprio waist deep in freezing water for five solid minutes. Head have been dead in like 30 seconds. How dumb. No

If Homer were alive he’d be suing Christopher Nolan for distorting his work.

I didn’t love Oppenheimer.
Had a gut feeling I would like Odyssey even less, so I have actively avoided it.
Sounded like an agenda-driven, disloyal (to the original), snoozefest.
Care to post your review here? I’d read it.

Can his estate do anything about it?

It’s a bad movie, everyone knows it. Reviews have been wildly manipulated the woke crowd and some big money people are doing all they can to create a false reality around it.

Some just refuse to open their eyes. No one can seriously defend the artistic choices of this film, so I laugh when they try. The people who get off on soft monster romance porn for women are the same who support this film.

A great movie about a homosexual Honda minivan searching the world for his one true love…….a 1968 Chevy Impala with white upholstery and mag wheels.

“ you can’t review it if you haven’t seen it.”

Is that a new rule here on FR?

Charles Joughin, the Titanic’s baker, was in the water for up to two hours and survived.

“ notable for his claim of having survived in the frigid water for over two hours”

Any witnesses? Or did he have a purpose for claiming this? It is impossible without miraculous intervention

Does this petty argument make this stupid movie good?

Or is it a perpetuation of the “you can’t post on FR if you don’t hate Nolan’s Odyssey’ rule?
