Lots of excuses and bogus remedies. The harsh truth is that only once in America history has the debt been zero. That was the work of President Andrew Jackson. The problem is systemic. No Congress Critter wins reelection bragging about all the money they have cut!

What is the solution? Milton Friedman made an excellent argument for a Balanced Budget Amendment. The only way that is going to happen is thru a Convention Of States.

The problem is Keynesian economics - we owe it to ourselves so yeeehaaaw - go print and borrow and spend. Friedman pointed out that it is not more spending that is the problem but rather whether you are getting something for it.

My problem with “balanced budgets” is they always front load the spending and then claim there won’t be enough revenue so they raise taxes. Balanced!
