Answer to balch3's "What is Wrong with You People?"
Free Republic ^ | 8/18/2026 | Jim Newell

On Aug. 17, 2026, balch3 posted “What is Wrong with you People?”, saying, What has happened to FR? People are advocating for President Trump's removal, making sarcastic remarks, Saying the TRump era is over. President Trump has righted the economy, ended Iran's nuclear weapons threat and is the greatest President since Reagan. He deserves better than this. He already has the RINOS in Congress against him, he needs his base fired up and ready to vote! THe RATS are highly motivated to steal this election. Have some courage and get behind out President!

Here is my answer:

I love Trump because I believe he genuinely loves America, stands up to the Left like no other, and he generally tells the truth. "MAGA" is from Trump's heart.

But there's more work to be done. Although I love Trump and the idea of "MAGA", it appears that Trump thinks MAGA is achieved through gov't. In business, Trump was used to being in charge ("The General", as Melania admirably calls him) and growing his business to world class. But what Donald Trump doesn’t seem to understand is as President, his job is to SHRINK gov’t, not grow it.

But gov't is essentially different from business. Business comes under the heading of "free pursuits". It is the endeavors of legitimate and God-given "self-interest". The Left has succeeded is merging "self-interest" with "greed" but these two terms are not the same. Everybody has God-given self-interest. It's why you don't pick rat poison at the grocery store for dinner tonight. Greed is corruption whereas self-interest is God given. Greed is basically taking what does not belong to you whereas self-interest is earning what belongs to you.

You always want to grow business. It's a God-given and legitimate desire in the interests of yourself, your family, and your concerns. It's free and competitive in the open market where eventually, without gov't interference, the best quality and best prices win the consumers' free choice. Nobody coerces the consumer to buy the product. Again, self-interest guides the consumer to the highest quality at the lowest price AKA VALUE. Business without gov't interference is FREE ENTERPRISE AKA the Free Market Economy (I don't like the Marists term "capitalism"). Nobody puts you in jail if you don't buy a product.

What about gov't? Read the Declaration of Independence for the purpose of gov't. Gov't is a necessary evil basically to protect a country from invasion of another country. Gov't is coercive. If you don't do what gov't says, it might put you in jail. Gov't has its OWN self-interest, and the bigger gov't gets, the greedier and more corrupt it gets. The greatest political document of all time might very well be the U.S. Constitution which recognizes both the need and the peril of a national gov't.

When did America become great? Basically in the 1800's. Why did America become great? Was it because of gov't? Hardly. Gov't spending during the 1800's averaged somewhere around 3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The federal gov't was an afterthought and generally was not thought about by the average citizen except in time of war.

And yet with individual freedom in full bloom and gov't generally out of the picture, America emerged for the 1800's into the 1900's as the most free, wealthiest, healthiest, and powerful country in the world.

Individual FREEDOM NOT GOV'T is what made MAGA and what will again make MAGA. As I said, Trump has done a lot of good but there much still to do. If America is going to truly be great again, it must have BIG individual freedom and SMALL gov't (except for military).

Who is going to put the Federal Gov't back into its constitutional cage and cut the 80%+, $3+ trillion unconstitutional portion of the federal gov't? (For instance, the federal gov't has not been constitutionally authorized to meddle in healthcare. Gov't healthcare needs to be abolished. On the other hand, social security although not constitutional, is an investment that so many Americans have made that to be just, it would have to be slowly ramped down if it were to be eliminated.

Whoever can take the heat from the Left like Trump and except for maybe social security, make the federal gov't constitutional, will be making America great again. Who is that person? I don't know if we'll ever have such a parson and such a movement but that is what will be required for MAGA.

They can and should eliminate it,

No they should stop robbing it and put it into a managed fund. You realize that they fund a lot of welfare with it right? Truth is we have no idea what they do with all the money but our politicians know, that is why they defend the expenditures because they benefit from them.

Unfortunately any form of intelligent discussion about how to do this get demagogued to death!

There is no intelligent discussion to be had if you think the only solution is to do away with it. How about asking the thieves in charge to not spend the money before they even get it, to the Tune of 40 trillion dollars.

Trump thinks MAGA is achieved through gov’t.’

We are getting a lesson now from the muzzies, you want to form up a posse to deal with that? Just ignore the police and military that will resist you.

"No they should stop robbing it and put it into a managed fund. You realize that they fund a lot of welfare with it right? Truth is we have no idea what they do with all the money but our politicians know, that is why they defend the expenditures because they benefit from them."

Which is precisely why it should be eliminated. Who ever thought it was a good idea to take an enormous amount of money from individuals and give it to the self-serving thieves in government? The money I've put into SS for decades is MY MONEY. If I went back and totaled up all that I put into SS, and what I could be earning on that money, it would be far, far more than what I will ever receive, and that assumes they don't simply say, "Oops! Sorry, we already spent that money on solar panel startup companies, tranny operas, etc., so you're now SOL."

No, it should absolutely NOT be put into a "managed fund", it should be ended, but only after every penny that people like me paid into it, is paid back. Managed fund? Managed by whom? What makes you think that a different bunch of sticky-fingered government crooks is going to "manage" it any better than what the theives who HAVE been managing it have done?

Agree, but Trump has a big to do list as part of that and there is a correct order.
No other potus in my lifetime has the raw courage to take these actions.
And no guarantee he will succeed.
I pray for him regularly.

The baseline is the recovery of America’s Free Constitutional Republic.

Trump has done maybe more that anyone to launch that effort, but there is still much yet to be done.

Agreed, but MAGA is not yet finished until the recovery of America's Free Constitutional Republic.

Thank you for posting Sicon.

They can and should eliminate it, but they cannot do so by robbing the people who have already paid into it for decades.

As absurd as this might sound, admirably "never give up," 10th Amendment (10A)-enlightened ordinary citizen patriot Democrats (contrast with lead from the rear GOP) would arguably be the first people to voice a state-based remedy, custom for each state, for at least breaking the ice on getting rid of unconstitutionally big federal government healthcare and retirement programs.

More specifically, ordinary Democrats can start arguing switching federal government stolen, 10A-based healthcare and retirement programs back to each state in order to start protecting ordinary citizens from further income abuse from unconstitutional federal taxes, doing so while concurrently demanding the repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments

One starting point for example, even if sounding a bit elite Democratic self-deceptive and childish, may be for every 10A-enlightened state to start enrolling the non-taxpaying children of willing parents in state healthcare and retirement programs, even if symbolic at first, for a broader awareness of MAJOR federal government vote-winning, but unconstitutional overreach in the affairs of the sovereign states. (Future generations of qualified citizen voters could brag that they were the first to be enrolled in such programs.)

[...] a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country."Justice Louis Brandeis, Laboratories of Democracy.

After all, Trump can never be elected POTUS.

It does not sound like you two understand the SS financial structure.

Money is taken from you while you’re working. It immediately goes out the door to pay the benefits of those retired. As long as the demographics are such there are more paying in the receiving it sort of works. The system was designed with 1930s-1940s mortality rates. That has dramatically changed!
Fundamentally its a Ponzi Scheme. No amount of fine tuning will fix it! Also you DO NOT OWN THE MONEY YOU PAID IN!
There have been several USSC decisions confirming that. If you owned it you could count it among your estate assets. You could pass it to your heirs. You can’t!

“Also you DO NOT OWN THE MONEY YOU PAID IN!”

Like I said, it was managed by THIEVES. They spent the money on other things. Sure, changing mortality plays a role, but straight out theft is the biggest problem. That, and allowing the fedgov to run a Ponzi scheme.

No one stole it! It was set up in a manner where it would eventually fail. Set up with assumptions that were fundamentally flawed.

A cynic might say it was set up in a manner so the retired generations could hold the working generations hostage.

Yes there’s thievery going on but its minor when compared to system’s flawed financing structure.

They need to grandfather it. It's ludicrous to cut it off from people over 80. But there should be a period of about 15 years of descending benefits with plenty of fair warning to those of employment age or younger.

The trouble would be getting a partisan congress to uphold the decisions of the other party as the body changes hands from one admin to the next—or getting it passed in the first place with such a guarantee.
