Thawed birds ... frozen birds don’t properly simulate live birds ...
There used to be a joke about that ... a company new to bird-strike testing had to be reminded to thaw the birds ... the frozen birds were causing catastrophic damage far in excess of what was expected.

Engines are tested by throwing frozen turkeys at them. I don't think they're frozen during those tests. In fact, I think it's important that they NOT be frozen.
