What would be very helpful to know is whether or not yhe personnel staffing this unit are regular police...or something else.

I’m betting the latter.

The fact that Britain has a police unit that monitors online comments and arrests people because of them is unbelievable. If the revolution really does happen, these police and whoever ordered the creation of such a unit would be among the very first I'd go after.
