Since You Went Away is a 1944 drama in which producer David O. Selznick created a memorable view of life among the wives and children left behind on the home front during World War II. Directed by John Cromwell, it is set in a mid-sized American town, where people with loved ones in the armed forces try to cope with their changed circumstances and make their own contributions to the war effort. The town is near a military base, and some of the characters are troops serving Stateside.
The film received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Colbert), Best Supporting Actress (Jones) and Best Supporting Actor (Woolley) -- but only won for Max Steiner's score.

Stellar cast!
They don’t make movies like that anymore!

A very sentimental and emotional film.
It belongs up there with ‘The Best Years of Our Lives’ in terms of families dealing with WWII stresses and problems.

Good movie. Chick Flick? Tear jerker. Great cast, including Robert Walker, who had a spitting image son Robert Walker Jr. I had no idea.
I do know about spitting images though, as I am near enough to my Dad's double.
